That's the same logic as the idiots that say bands today wouldn't exist if the Beatles didn't exist. That's not how things work in life.
Okay, erm... Jason? you do know that Half-Life wasnt the first fully 3d fps, right? More importantly, that wasn't even his point. He said that Halo wouldn't exist without Half-Life because it was the game that made the FPS a story-driven genre. Even if the idea for Halo DID come about, it would have been years later and it would have been a very different game.

So, by your logic, if Benjamin Franklin hadn't invented electricity, there would still be no electricity to this day right? Anyone who would believe that is crazy. I'm not concerned with which 3d fps was first, and if Half-Life wasn't made there would still be story-driven FPS games. It's insane to say that there wouldn't be. Also that's pretty much all opinion anyways, in my opinion the original Doom and Duke Nukem games were story driven, perhaps just not in as much detail as Half-Life.
I'm not a huge Halo fan, I've only really played 1 and 2 for any amount of time, but I have beaten half-life and half-life 2, and I don't see how people could say they are better than the Halo series.
why everything from halo looks like everything we saw before (aliens,starcraft,half life,metroid... etc.) every good sci-fi movie and game out there :/

shareHalf Life was fun. But the story was very lackluster IMO.
On another note, I hope Episode 3 comes out soon.

And also, in all fairness, the first Halo game came out in I believe November of 01, 'Attack of the Clones' didn't open until May of 2002.
But it's quite clear that Halo did lift a lot of visual cues from Aliens and Starship Troopers.
Even the Elite skulls are a mesh of two popular sci-fi creatures. The overall shape, when you see the skull, is very similar to the Alien creature, and it has 4 mandibles, similar to how the Predator has mandibles, as well as the ability to turn invisible...and I believe the way the digits on their hands are arranged is Alien-like.
But it's not any one thing, it's the way it's all brought together that make it so great.
Also, not to sound like a Halo-whore here, but Halo 3 and Halo: Reach are leaps and bounds above Halo and Halo 2.
If you really are interested in Halo: Reach, it's worth checking out, and is quite a self contained story in and of itself.
