Okay, so ancient alien civilization= Feudal Japan?

Okay in "Babysitting" There's talk of ruins of an unknown ancient civilization, and it turns out to be a carbon copy of Medieval Japanese architecture. I mean seriously, was the (Assumedly Japanese) art director so unimaginative that he couldn't conjure something that he couldn't see from his own office window. I mean I know they were going for the whole "Chariots of the Gods" BS, and usually I can turn my brain off and role with it, but we're not exactly talking about ancient Egypt here. I mean it's basically like if they found the ruins of an alien ancient civilization and it looked exactly like a Medieval village complete with Tudor style cottages. It just looks dumb, and I wonder if it looked just as dumb, if not more so, to the Japanese audience of this movie.

The point of that architecture was to be obvious that it looked HUMAN. That was the point that was being made to the audiance, it was ancient, predating the perceived start of both Covenent and human civilization, but it looks human.

Because if one reads further into the folklore of this franchise, forerunner and humans co-existed during the same time period. 'co-existed' is an over simplification of the relationship, but there were humans around in forerunner time.

Sure, they could have made them look totally unique and alien, but educated audiances would have just registered it as 'oh this must be forerunner stuff' but it's not, it's from the humans that were around during the time of the forerunner.

Was it a little obvious and somewhat uninmaginative? Sure, but with the point they were trying to make, I can accept it.

I know that they showed cave men on Earth during forerunner time, but are you suggesting there were fully developed human civilisations on other planets?

I agree with the OP here, I thought it was ridiculous.
On one hand, Covenant designs are pretty varied, and huge, so to make it obviously not theirs, they'd have to do something radically different, but making it Japanese? After making a point that it was neither Human or Covenant, was just plain retarded. It's a shame because that was one of the best episodes.

I'm not suggesting sh!t. Look up the first of the Forerunner books, Halo: Cryptum

Humans, or at least a variety of them, existed alongside Forerunners.

This is a fictional sci-fi universe about alien warfare, don't tell me that THIS is where you draw the line.
