Just watched all 8 episodes (no spoilers)

This tells you everything , where did everything started. the animation of each episode is different , Episode #8 has the best animation, details, action and the best Spartan. is the only one i liked. #5 has some comedy in it. the rest is a little meh.

I saw it and didn't really have any complaints. Fairly good animation and decent storylines. Still wish it touch on afterwards as far as Halo 3.

Yeah that's true, Origins 1&2 are the only episodes with post Halo 3 scenes. I'd be nice to get more of those.

How many people liked the prototype suit?

reply

Loved that suit! =D I thought all the episodes were unique and very very good in there own way! *little spoiler* martins music goes perfectly with each episode!

Wouldn't be much of an "origins" compilation then eh?

Everything I've seen has been great visually and mythology-wise, and this was the perfect video release to set up for Reach.

For me, since back in 2001 (8 years can you believe it?) Halo has been about the story, the gameplay was a blast but it was by no means the first great FPS (especially if you were a PC gamer). It brought to consoles what had only been done on the PC. A great FPS. However Halos true greatness was in its story telling.

Many people, including myself, were absorbed by a sci-fi mythology that grasped our imaginations and inspired our adrenaline to pump through our veins. From the games themselves to the alternate reality games. The gameplay was fun as hell but it was the story that kept us coming back.

Halo ODST was expensive as it was short, I wouldn't pay full price for it but I got it cheap and was blown away. Sure, it is like an expansion pack of Halo 3. But the best part about it was the story, I felt like it went so much deeper into the mythology and not in terms of the history and future of the mythology but into how real the mythology could feel.

That's what this compilation of shorts has done for me, it takes my imagination and throws it back into a mythology that I've grown to love. In short, if you played halo for the gameplay you might not really be into this one but if you played for the mythology, it's a must watch.

Nice posting and I certainly agree with you on the story. I genuinely connected with and 'felt' the story, none moreso than the sense of betrayal you feel when playing as the Arbiter on High Charity in Halo 2, when the civil war is kicking off.

The wonderfully evocative yet melancholic music only heightened the sense of connection with the character.

I also agree on ODST. I paid full price but didn't mind as I felt the story, though short, gave a sense of real grass roots, nuts and bolts this is what is was like for the average grunt (ie human soldier).

I enjoyed the Animatrix immensely, and although I've read up on a fair chunk of the Halo universe, I'm really looking forward to checking out Halo Legends for a further explanation of everything.

Just finished watching the episodes and I was pretty disappointed. The only good ones were The Babysitter and The Package.

I thought it was pretty lame that *spoilers* the Spartan in The Babysitter turned out to be a chick. The entire time it was made obvious that she was by the fact that she wasn't talking. and I thought she looked ridiculous for supposedly being a spartan. It just kinda irked me that they tried to pull the Samus factor on us. I'm not saying there aren't female Spartans, because there obviously are some great ones, but the way they brought it across was lame. Same thing goes for the Spartan in Homecoming.

The voice acting was kinda dull. The animation was good but very basic.
I'm a big Halo fan by the way. I came in with no expectations and still ended up giving it a 4/10.

*SPOILERS*

Not only is that idea lame, but it has been done to DEATH. I have seen so many movies/game cut scenes where the tough guy pulls off his helmet and surpise, surprise - it's a girl! Whatever. Nobody cares. But to make that the entire point of your episode. And to make the other main guy such a whiny *beep* and then have him learn a lesson in sexism that most people born beyond the 1960s take for granted was a huge insult. If this is how the Japanese see Halo then it's no wonder the Xbox 360 has never sold well in that country.

The only one(s) I personally enjoyed were Origins I and II. Well-written, well-executed, epic in style and scope. It captured everything the Haloverse was about and condensed it wonderfully into a moving tapestry of the eons.

From then on, however things just go downhill. The writing all seemed to be written by non English speakers, with that sort of awkward grammar and diction one finds common in dubbed Japanese Anime episodes. This was at least acceptable for the inspired "the Duel" because it was set in an alien environment, in a culture where Honor is king. It felt right.

"Be Human" was especially cheesy and one-dimensional, with contrived plot-points and the longest death speech known to man.

"The Babysitter" was predictable but at least fast-paced. "The Package" simply grated against all established Halo mythology and completely retconned the character of Dr. Halsey.

Just my two cents.
