I wanted to like it...

...And I still do. It just seemed so un-Cronenberg. A Dangerous Method still seemed very much like a Cronenberg film to me. But Cosmopolis only seemed to have hints of his craft. This was on the list for a long time and I've given it about 3 viewings now.

I've come to realize RP is part of why this film doesn't work. Atleast for me. Billionaires in this world give off a much different vibe (atleast in interviews I've seen). He just seemed like a rich kid to me. When i say vibe I mostly mean his air of intelligence. It's like he was trying too hard to sound smart when delivering his lines. Someone who speculates and analyzes currencies would genuinely sound like a wise guy. I guess I couldn't "buy it". was a bit dissappointed to see Colin Farrel as a previous candidate because I think he would've brought more acting chops to the table. Check out Phone Booth. That type of subtle arrogance wouldve done this film good.

I had the subtitles on and everything - rewinding when I missed something- and still- the writing was just weak to me. The plot itself seemed thin.

Again- I'm a huge Cronenberg fan. I'm trying to analyze this objectively.

The whole limousine thing got pretty old/ and I think he could've done way more with cinematography overall. Films like dead ringers and eastern promises each have several scenes that will forever be embroiled in my head. As well as all of his other films. (Still have to watch Map of the Stars).

I'm usually the guy who likes obscure /complex /slow/ generally underrated films. Ones that my none of my friends have heard about: Tree of Life, Beyond the Black Rainbow, Oblivion, Antichrist, Hail Caesar, Macbeth, High Rise, Inherent Vice, Martha Marcy May Marlene, Inland Empire---- you know weird stuff like that....and even I could not really stand this one. to each his own- 5/10

I actually enjoy the limousine thing. It really captures just how insulated from the rest of the world Packer is.

Seize the moment, 'cause tomorrow you might be dead.

Preach Caleb?? The legendary preach Caleb?? Hahaha jkjk I'll put our past debates to the side here.

I agree it captures that insulation/isolation his character seems to be a product of. But that's not to say it didn't get old. The whole concept could've been explored a bit more IMO. "How else does this affect a human being?" Type situations. It seemed like a lot of the scenarios /conversations of this film were barely relevant- and didn't really connect in the long run. Like I've said - i do want to like this film. Similar to Scorcese's Kundun- I want to like it because I like the director. Maybe I just need a good analysis.
