What Does Everyone Hate This Film So Much?

I kept seeing this pop up on Netflix, figured I'd finally watch it. I was pleasantly surprised. It was beautifully shot, there's no debating that. Some critics were saying how boring it was or whatever else but I found it pretty decent with some good moments between the two of them.

But yes, the Travolta accent was laughable for the first five minutes then I just got used to it... his beard looked ridiculous, he didn't need that. I thought, aside from that accent, he was better than usual because he's usually so campy and over the top. And I thought Deniro was great, didn't mail it in, like so many of his recent films.

I dunno, I didn't think it was amazing but I didn't hate it either... I'm just wondering what I'm not seeing because it's so overwhelmingly awful reviews.

You're probably an American who has never been in Europe..

As a Yugoslavia war veteran I kinda was insulted on how they displayed Travolta, looking & sounding like a f'ing IS terrorist..
But I know it's just American ignorance, Americans are stupid..
A lot (if not most) Americans, Europe is a country instead of a continent..
I bet they also think that previous Yugoslavia, Hungary, Poland, Ukraine etc are parts of Russia..

The least they could have done was casting someone from Serbian, Croatian, or Slovenian origine..

"Gar nicht so übel, du kleine Schlampe. Man sieht sich immer zweimal, Kleine."

Yugoslavian war vet ?? Just the sound of it is laughable.. As corrupt as Isis almost with what the Serbs did during the 90s to their own people as well. More like genocide participant veteran..

THERES NO ROOM IN MY CIRCUS TENT FOR YOU !!!!

I didn't think he did a bad job on the accent. I took Russian and have traveled a lot in Eastern Europe. It just didn't seem right coming out of him is all. Been to Mostar so I am certain Europe is not a country by the way.

I agree with OP on the movie itself in general. If you can overlook some of the film's scruples, it's not that bad really. They got everything else right - good action flick. I was kinda pleasantly surprised seeing De Niro in action again, I didn't know he still was doing such flicks, I mean he's not super old yet, and thid was no Expendables, but still, hey, for his age, I give him a credit ( even though it's all movie magic) - whatever. Anyway, good flick.
