Know what's NOT scary?

3-second snippets of ghosts/murder scenes that are so murky and blurry you can't tell a damn thing that's going on.

The ONLY good part of this movie — after they step inside the murder house — has great atmosphere, but it is so badly directed and full of poor decisions, it steps all over itself. Goddamn modern editing techniques have RUINED filmmaking. Seriously, not one single murder scene presented here lands AT ALL. You never get longer than a 3 or 4 second glimpse of fuzzy, poorly-lit ghosts reenacting their deaths. In fact, the only way I knew what was going on in some cases was by watching the filming in the Making Of feature.

This is another case of a fantastic idea ruined by a hack director.

What I wouldn't give for the classic concepts of good writing, acting & directing married to competent editing.

Some parts like the scenes with the property owners with Crone showing up & final build up to the house just glimpses of a good old cult classic. Joe Anderson was phoning in a Brad Pitt lite probably had Hannibal role after this he put good performance in that role. Julia oh loved how she "attached" herself to this project needed a bigger name like Lauren Cohen.

Would make for a awesome Doctor Who story if adapted again just needs a better higher direction.

You gotta stay in your seats until the Sulaco reaches the terminal!

yeah the house had the potential to be very creepy but those fog and mist ghosts were awful, really really awful

it would even have worked better if they just used noises or shadows or something simple, thats how terrible the fog ghosts were, completely detracted from any sense of malice

they fcked it up

i have a ten minute posting quota because I called the imdb staff scumbags

Amen to that! I couldn't agree more! The only thing that could've been truly scary wasn't scary at all...
Ruined by editing techniques? I think it was ruined by some kind of censorship, a line Bousman couldn't cross for some reason. Which is very sad, since we have The Walking Dead, American Horror Story, and even Game of Thrones - that have epic (from a horror fan's point of view:)) death scenes. And those are not even films, but bloody TV series that we watch on Sunday evenings!
Ridiculous film... I truly-truly believe that - I KNOW - that Darren Lynn Bousman can do MUCH much better! He made Devil's Carnival and Tales of Halloween ffs!

I thought the OP was going to answer his own question with "This entire movie."
