Crone brainwashed the townspeople into some kind of rebirth to their town. Cult-stuff. Basically Crone just used them to create a Murder House so he could fetch his family from Hell.
shareYeah, but one can't brainwash another person to MURDER his family for...hope... Hope for what? a better life? in what way? An eternal life maybe? rebirth of their town? What does it even mean? omfg, I'd never murder my husband/child for anything in the world! This is so stupid!
The script sucks, because it doesn't fully explain ANYTHING about this earth - purgatory - hell bridge.
I gave 4 stars just for the ending. Yes I can understand someone being brainwashed to the point of sacrificing a child for a better future BUT Crone deceived them, OK? He only wanted his family back. So why did Allie killed her only child? We see her crying because she will have to sacrifice her daughter and then she kills her and tell Crone to get his family. So she knew that Crone wanted his family back and not the good of the town.
And why Crone gave Julia the option to leave and even expose him to the world? He needed her. Yes he knows she will probably choose to enter but no one would even consider giving an option to their victim in a situation like this.
I really hate it when horror films don't make sense in the end.
I think he gave them a choice, so he couldn't be blamed for their actions later. Being a cult leader he's quite charismatic. It's along the lines of Jigsaw--"I didn't kill anyone, they made a choice."
