Medical Question - SPOILER ALERT

Would doctors really expect for a woman to carry a stillborn for two weeks or longer before giving birth?

If I ever was myself, I wasn't that night.

As gruesome as it seems. This ABSOLUTELY happens to some women. It is the cruelest kind of tragedy. The thing I found highly insensitive is how when she went in for the procedure, she had to go to the maternity ward.

When my husband's mother was pregnant with her first, she worked in an office with a woman who was pregnant at the same time and the other woman had to carry her child for several weeks. That was in 1965. When you're that far along, its much less physical trauma on the body for them to induce and have as "normal" a delivery as possible.

I guess if you can't buy in to that premise, this movie must seem ridiculous. Since I knew this can happen, it seemed unbelievably tragic.

This movie is absolutely spot on! She could not have the cesarean safely for a few days because concussions and anesthesia don't mix. Once the hospital discharged her it had to be followed up with her doctor and he wanted to do it on his own schedule. However, the scene where she was in the maternity ward would not have happened. With better understanding of mental health someone in her situation would have been taken care of in another part of the hospital with a flag on her chart or on her room door to warn entering personnel that she is grieving. She absolutely would not be in earshot of crying babies or happy families. This is taken very seriously nowadays.

I always thought that the body would reject the fetus if it died in utero. It also explains some misconceptions about what may cause a stillbirth, especially in rural areas where people don't have access to hospitals. People will think about things close to the birth assume that the fetus died close to the birth, when it may have died weeks before it is born.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

I would seriously kill myself. There is no way in hell I could carry my dead baby around.
