The big change

SPOILER WARNING!!!!!

In the film, the grandparents hinge their custody case around Denny’s alleged assault of the grandfather, whereas in the book, it is a sexual assault claim. I understand why the change was made for the film, but it totally hindered the impact of the story. I feel like it was a cop-out and it weakened the film. Thoughts?

The false sexual assault accusation was the only thing I hated about an otherwise great book. I thought the change also kept the villains limited to the grandparents rather than Eves entire family and thereby sharpened the focus making it more manageable for film.

What did you feel was negatively impacted?
