shareI know!! I was like oh god, why? why aren't they just speaking Japanese and using subtitles? It seems clear the actors learned their lines phonetically because the intonations are all off and unnatural sounding. Such a weird choice for Oshii. Wonder if he was hoping to make the film more saleable on the international market? Why not just have a US company like FUNimation or Sentai Filmworks provide a decent ADR English dub in that case?!
My favorite character was Lucifer, who clearly just did not give a *beep* anything....
I was expected something truly great after that meaningful intro (which was waaaay too deep for me), then the waiting game began...
...10mins, waiting... 20mins, still waiting for something good...
...given up hope halfway through the movie, but throught I'll soldier on...
...by the end, really, all you can do is laugh at just how bad this movie was!
i was also terribly disappointed. i fell for the awesome trailers. defenitely some of oshii's weakest work.
shareJust saw this on netflix. I enjoyed avalon and was hoping that this would be similar. Instead we get a 60 minute movie that could have been cut down to 15 minutes.
At least two of the chapters had to deal with just watching players move about in the environment and play with the snail. What the he:;... I spend enough time doing such boring stuff when playing games, I don't need to see it in a movie!!!

This wasn't even "horrible movie" funny. This was just horrible. Even MST3K couldn't save this movie. If Dr. Forrester were still around, he could take over the world with this movie. It's that bad.
shareI thought this film started out promisingly, but ran out of gas about twenty minutes in and got bogged down in way too much heavy-handed existential brooding. Which is a real pity, because the neat premise certainly had potential.
