I suspect the low rating....

Is due to insecure, hating men that cannot handle strong, funny women. I don't know one female that didn't think that this was totally hilarious.

I am a woman and watched this movie because of a couple of actresses who I find funny.

It really is awful. I hate the characteristics highlighted in these people, being bitter about someone else's happiness, getting competitive for petty reasons and selfishness.

It's ugly, the humour is crude and obvious and there was no character development at all. The only good thing is that this has been a successful movie with an all female lead cast. I personally was disappointed with it though.

I thought this movie was extremely accurate. The female power dynamic might be a little exaggerated but it's based on reality. Kristen's character is just like someone I had to cut out of my life for being nuts. Always getting in trouble. Well, I thought it was so funny. The haters do seem to be mostly guys though. I'm not sure why they would watch a movie made for women anyway.

THIS!

The OP completely ignored that there is a possibility that the 6.8 rating (which is actually pretty good) could have also come from bitter petty women. But no, let's blame it all on the men.

btw, I gave the movie a 7. It kept my interest. I watched it once. I doubt I'll ever watch it again. It was decent, but nothing special. Just like a lot of comedies. The only reason it got all the attention it did was b/c it was an "all female" main cast. This came out in 2011. That shouldn't have been a marketing gimmick, even back then. I never viewed this as a female comedy. I viewed it as a comedy.

You have a sadly small window into how women are. Your experiences do not speak for an entire gender.

reply

I'm a guy, and I loved the movie. The previous poster is female and she thought it was awful. So much for the gender stereotypes...lol

reply

A lot of the people who hate it are angry young men there are exceptions to the rule of course but yeah I agree with you OP

reply

I agree :/ why can't they just leave it alone?

reply

Eh, I'm female and I thought it was just ok. Some parts were funnier than others. For me personally, the movie would have worked better had they been a bit subtler but I guess over-the-top sells better so they went with that. While the characters were obviously caricatures, I really would not have been able to be friends with people like that. Annie was super petty and Helen was using her wealth to be manipulative to try to make people like her. Megan was ok, but the roommates were trashy and the bride was a bit underdeveloped.

Your comment comes off as sexist. Different people have different tastes. The movie was clearly more geared to women then men, so it's unsurprising that women tend to like it more, but I feel you're off in your assessment.

47 year-old guy here who absolutely loved it. There aren't many great comedies these days - this was one of them.
