Bill Murray as FDR??????

Are you kidding me? It can not be only me. This has to be one of the worst casting choices I have ever seen.

What's next is he playing MLK?

I thought he did a pretty good job -- once I could get "Caddyshack" out of my head, he settled into the role well. The habitual Murray smirk was gone, which was a change-up.

Actually, I thought that it was quite brilliant. The man is an 'actor'...and should not be shoved in one category just because it is what he was known for.

Yes, I think it is only you. And no, no one is kidding you. Bill Murray did a fantastic job as FDR in his final decade.

I had post a message early on [when many went on this board raving with enthusiasm about Murray's performance, a "shoo-in" for an Oscar nomination] I wrote that, based only on the trailer, I just couldn't see Murray anywhere near deserving of an Oscar nomination. I wasn't surprised that both the Academy's acting branch and the Screen Actor's Guild obviously felt the same.

But you actually saw the film and came out with the same impression.

So NO, it isn't only you.

Saw this film a few days ago. There were maybe 10 people in the theatre. It almost felt surreal.

I loved it. Loved the quiet of the film and the quiet of the theatre. It was pure pleasure from start to finish.

And I loved Bill Murray's portrayal of FDR. He most certainly surprised me with his skill. He is a far more talented actor than I ever realized.

While the film itself is a bore but I will admit that I was rather surprised how good of a job Bill Murray did as Franklin Roosevelt.

Bill Murray is a great. Watch his other dramas and you'll be surprised.

reply

I thought he did a good job. I don't particularly like Bill Murray.

I think you use too many question marks.

reply

I can think of worse choices. The physicality doesn't have to be identical. It helps sometimes, but it's not absolutely necessary.

I thought so too. FDR was a large man and Bill Murray didn't fit the bill. Bill also made no effort to sound like FDR.

I was surprised with this casting too. I felt that BM did a decent job of portraying FDR but not outstanding.
From what I've read the real FDR had immense charm & charisma.Bill played a very low key,low energy character that simply wasn't true to history.
