Terrible Movie

Saw a screening of this a few weeks ago in Chicago and we walked out halfway through it.

I love Ed Helms...but even I think this movie looks crappy. :-(

Don't IMDb stalk me!

reply

There must be something right with it if it is a Sundance selection. Probably just not your cup of tea. I never watch Horror movies.

reply

I don't even know what the genre of this was. It wasn't funny (and I honestly don't know if it was trying to be), it wasn't dramatic, or quirky. I love Sundance Film Festival. I don't like The Hangover and I think Ed Helms is the worst character in The Office even though I love the show. But this movie is just...UGH.

The only way I could describe this film is probably DTV 90's flick.

Hey "oblivion spawn", thanks for letting me know about pointless sh*t in your life. Really, really fascinating. Tell me more... What's your favorite shampoo? Pert Plus... or is that not very good in your mind?
Let's just stick to reviews here; not your worthless opinions.
Thanks,

No thanks, you can continue to read my sentence about The Hangover being over hyped if you want to know all about my life.

Hey moron, it is permissible for a review to include an opinion.
And I second his review/opinion: The Hangover sucked donkey ballz as did Cedar Rapids!

If you can't figure what the genre of this movie is, then you're probably too stoned most of the time to offer an opinion. Anyway, I guess you know what they say about opinions.

reply

It's not like The Hangover at all. You guys are missing my point.

Although, you'll probably like it if you like bro comedies (ie. 99% of America = idiots who thrive on Will Ferrell comedies)

reply

Then theres the people of the world who have ZERO sense of humor, and should stop going to see comedies becuase all they do is complain about them and it annoys all the normal people in the world.

reply

it helps if the comedies are funny

reply

Yes, yes... we're all stupid and your unique movie tastes are just perfection. Yet another one of these threads

World must look small way up there on your high horse

reply

the movie didn't figure itself out. not sure there's a need to randomly insult some person by accusing him of being a stoner.

the film was neither fish nor fowl: not funny enough to be a comedy, not dramatic enough to be a drama, and too unfocused and bland to be a successful mix of both.

it looked like crap too, unfortunately

also: it was never quite explained convincingly why the main character was so inhibited. they tried, but in my mind did not succeed. I never quite understood him, and it had nothing to do with me being stoned or not. it was missing from the depiction.

it may not be a terrible movie, but it's not close to a good one, except for some wonderfully game actors and a few funny lines

Sounds to me like your just not an Ed Helmsfan, ad that may ruin the films for you sometimes I think you just may have a different sense of humor. Not a bad thing at all though.

see you later

Likewise. . . It was better than it had to be by quite a bit and Helms shows greater range than in his previous work.

I was shocked this piece of crap was an indie. However, it proves that indie movies can be as dumb and unintelligent as their bigger, mainstream contemporaries.

The only thing that looked good in it was when the guy from The Wire quotes Omar from The Wire. Other than that... it looks dumb.

reply

Yeah, that was funny the first five times I saw it in the trailer. By the time I saw the actual movie, it was pretty meh.

reply

I agree, this movie as absolutely horrible. I was a on plane trip across the Pacific and this was one of the movies offered on the flight. The title sounded interesting so I put it on. About 30 minutes of it was all I could take. There wasn't a laugh in it and not even the least bit interesting as a drama. It was easier to stare out the window of the plane for 15 hrs than it was to sit through 30 minutes of this stinker.

reply

When the name sundance is mentioned, there is a good chance they are right.

If you would read with more comprehension, you would have understood in my reply I was making a judgment based on info. I can usually tell if I would like a particular car based on years of observation, style, make, type, of similar cars and on others.

This was a hysterical film. Ed Helms is a revelation as a leading man, and John C. Reilly is brilliant, as always. I give this film the "I Heart Huckabees" treatment, in that I laughed the entire time, but I was the only one laughing. Perhaps I'm just too intelligent...

reply

Not true, IMO.

Actually not a terrible movie at all. Extremely funny. Don't go see movies if they aren't your type.

i didn't like the hangover. i don't like will ferrell (he was goo din wedding crashers). i like the office, but not helms' character. however, i thought the trailer for 'cedar rapids' made it look really promising. the keys to it will be john c reilly and anne heche, not ed helms. if the movie is good, it'll be because it's reilly's movie. reilly can be very, very funny. and anne heche has a funny quirkiness to her uptightness.

my point is that i'm looking forward to this as a john c reilly movie and not as an ed helms movie.

Oh, but the chemistry between all four of the leads is great, and kind of the whole point of the movie. None of them knows each other at the start, but in just a few days they form quite a group friendship. Helms is the central character, but how he ends up bringing them all together is fun (and very funny).

The movie truly is "super awesome." I need to see it again because I saw it at a packed Michigan theater (in A2 where it was filmed), and I (and probably everyone) missed a fair amount of dialog because the laughter was just too loud and long. SO much more fun seeing movies in a packed theater (at least when the movie is good and the audience is into it).

reply

they all did know each other except for helms' character. i saw it during the middle of the day last week, so there weren't a lot of people in the theater. but it was nice listening to everyone laugh.

reply

I find interesting that you're not a Ferrell fan but like Reilly. Although they're not clones they have a similar style. How did you feel about Stepbrothers?

reply

Ferrell's characters are not believable, Reilly's are. One of them is an actor, the other is a buffoon
