Good movie... if it were a Disney movie

I think it's an OK movie, but Wonder Woman is so much better, it has the perfect balance between drama and comedy, but this movie is kinda silly tbh
There is some flaws in the character of Aquaman, sometimes he's a badass, sometimes he act like a child, sometimes he's grumpy, sometimes he's fearless and sometimes he's a coward
The moments with music were also terrible, putting a fricking PITBULL SONG??? Really??
I'll give a 5/10

No...if it "were a Disney movie" it would probably have been a much better film.

Box-office fits with how the world loves crap, though. I'm sure Captain Marvel will be an infinitely better film than Aquaman but won't come close to what this film made.

What is your "over/under" for Captain Marvel vs Aquaman?

When you wrote that you had no idea that Captain Marvel would even do Ant-Man numbers, let alone Wonder Woman numbers and now Captain Marvel stands a mere $27 Million closer to Aquaman. The interesting thing is Aquaman's sole claim to an edge over Captain Marvel is China and China alone. Don't you have statements that speak to the rather weak profit performance that films have when China is used in a performance metric? Aquaman collected a whopping $298 million from China and Captain Marvel did $154 Million.

Aquaman had a hefty haul of $812 Million international while Captain Marvel is currently approximately at $700 Million international. It would seem that the return on revenue or ROI swings heavily in Marvel's favor on Captain Marvel vs AM.

Fun fact: If you subtract the China totals from both films CM thoroughly demolishes Aquaman to the point that Aquaman is well below the Billion Dollar club by $150 Million dollars!

Captain Marvel also would be kicked out of the $1 Billion dollar club but would only need $34 Million to regain entry.

CM $966,379,706
AM $849,328,311

You still sure that CM won't come close to Aquaman's total when CM's final numbers come in?

Are you still uber confident of that, ahem, QueenFanUSA factoid?

reply

It's going to be very close. CM performed much better than I would have ever anticipated in all of it's markets. Deservedly so, as I think it's a much better film than Aquaman.

reply

I'd love to see all that exposition dialogue translated to Chinese then back to English. The majority of the film is exposition.

People floating in front of each other explaining rules the other person already knows.

reply

You say "silly" as though it were a bad thing.

reply

Unlike Thor Ragnarok or Guardians of the Galaxy, the "silly" in Aquaman was executed ineptly.

reply

Yeah, but since the end result was a hell of a lot of fun, let's not get too picky.

reply

Fair enough. It seems most people found it to be highly entertaining. Personally, I found it a chore to watch. I went into it really wanting to like it. If it wasn't for Amber Heard's hotness, I think I would have walked out 3/4 into the film.

reply

If you found it a chore to watch, perhaps you made the mistake of trying to take it seriously?

I mean, it's MUCH more fun if you laugh at all the ridiculous and impossible things, like the guy being given a superweapon that uses water for fuel… before being sent into the Sahara Desert. What's he gonna do, pee into it?

reply

Totally agree, the movie IS silly. Wonder Woman is also silly but the movie was so well executed that you ended believing in that universe.

Oh dear....

*the brains of Disney haters and the anti-Disney trolls are scrambling and going wild just reading that line*
Triggered! Haha.

Aquaman’s tone ridiculously uneven? True. It can be serious, badass, melodramatic, and also as cheesy as any superhero movie has ever been. So, I hear you. But is this necessarily a bad thing for a movie that purposely tries to be over the top? It depends on the viewer, I guess. While shifting genres and tones is something that was clearly appreciated by many, for many other this was problematic. I myself enjoy movies that are unafraid to get crazy with their tone, though Aquaman never manages to find its own identity. On top of that, it suffers from poor dialogue and it’s longer than it should be.

Putting that aside, I thought there was enough things to admire about this movie, including... maybe the tone? Its tone is a mess and it isn’t handled particularly well. But be that as it may, Aquaman on the whole is so refreshingly different from the soulless gloom we’re used to seeing in the DCEU that an inconsistent tone perhaps isn’t such a bad thing after all. The movie wants to be fun above anything else and, as flawed as it is, Wan’s direction, the performances and the visuals are strong enough. You just have to enjoy it for what it is. [Wow... is making statements like this going to become the new norm for many DC fans? How things change.] XD

Anyways, groundbreaking this movie is not. It is, however, a fresh breath of air for the DCEU. It’s colorful, visually pleasing, and unlike all the previous DCEU movies (with the slight exception of Wonder Woman) this one felt like a real adventure with a heart. James Wan over Snyder any day of the week!
