That's smart in the sense that males are the target market, but they are losing the women by not having a Chris Hemsworth type actor in the main role. Jason Momoa's not unattractive by any means, he's just a man's man and a figure of what men think women are attracted too. Some women do go for that look of course but most prefer a more facially 'pretty' man.

Sure, a lead I find attractive is a big plus, but that's not what makes or breaks a movie for me.
It doesn’t affect the box office generally if an actor is hot or not but in my very personal experience I’ve gone to see some movies because I find the actor hot.
I went to see Thor the Dark world because of my crush for Chris Hemsworth and SpiderMan Homecoming to see RDJ even though he only had 10 minutes on screen lol 😂
Most of the times I do go to watch a movie because of the plot or because in general it looks good but once in a while i do go to see a movie for the Eye candy or the actor I find attractive. It’s not a make or break deal as you say but yeah once in a while i do get persuaded to see a movie because of the actors i find hot.

He's not even my type, but Momoa is an absolute catch. I think you're generally right about the pretty man being more conventionally attractive to women, but there's just something about this guy that makes panties drop internationally. Maybe because he's well known for being a great dad as well as a buff bro dude. It's a perfect combination. Also, I was dragged to the movies by girlfriends, one of whom kept murmuring "just take your shirt off" throughout the whole film - which I can't even argue with, since clothing gets heavy in water.

I do find him attractive, he is definitely my type. Robert Downey Jr. for me is the sexiest actor ever and like Jason he is more manly non of them are really that exactly beautiful but when you see them on screen and notice their charm you find them very attractive.
Now I have two of my bffs who both love pretty boys one loves Zac Efron and my other friend loves TheHemsworth brothers and Chris Evans.
The one loves Zac Efron said definitely Jason Momoa is definitely not my type I don’t find him attractive at all but my friend who loves Chris Evans and the Hemsworth brothers completely felt in love with him so you really never know.
We all have exceptions to our type of men we like.
I’m totally more into the masculine look like Robert Downey Jr, Pierce Brosnan when he was in his prime ( his James Bond Days), Jason Momoa, Jason Statham, Eric Bana( the way he looked on the other Boleyn Girl and Troy) but my exceptions are : Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans and Brad Pitt in his prime.
I totally agree with what you’ve said here but my point, which may have been confusing is that Jason Momoa is the kind of man that MEN ‘think’ women want, but many women just don’t find that kind of man attractive. I’m probably not conveying my point very well at all. It’s like if you had a primarily female made and directed movie and they picked a woman that they think men are super into and the ideal sex goddess and they pick Kim Kardashian.
A lot of men would love that, but I think most would be turned off.

I definitely agree that Marvel has mastered the art of picking the right actors for maximum appeal. I like all of them, every single one.
The casting for DC just doesn’t come close in my opinion. Something fundamental to human understanding is missing, like someone went grocery shopping for you without knowing what you like and brought back stuff you would never eat lol.
