That Black Mantis "suit"

The Black Mantis getup, suit, or whatever it was looked like something out of a bad Japanese science fiction movie from the 1950's...or, something from the stupid Power Rangers crapola.

idk, looked pretty comic book accurate to me.

reply

Then they should've forsaken the comic book. It looked ridiculous, lol.

reply

In a movie with a guy who talks to fish, a woman impressed by the guy talking to fish even though SHE can control water, tens of thousands of waterbreathing people including crazed man-fish that CAN come up on the surface.....and the Manta helmet is a bridge too far?

reply

the Manta helmet is a bridge too far?

It is something that, if done well enough, we will accept the other things more easily.

reply

He looks exactly like he does in the comic book. what did you expect him to look like? I mean this is a movie based on a comic book character even got Ocean Master looking like he did with that silly mask of his.

reply

I maintain that it still looked ridiculous. But, since you're using the comic book as a definitive reference, Mamoa hardly looks like the original Aquaman.

reply

they used the 52 universe versions of both from the comic.

reply

I absolutely loved it. That rooftop chase is the best action sequence since long (second only to the amazing deep-trench dive and the final battle)!

This Black Manta guy was a new Bobba Fett or Darth Maul.

Glad he comes back. Also great that a black actor is allowed to play a vengeful villain asshole for once.

reply

Yea cause Michael B Jordan didnt play a vengeful character.

reply

No, he was not really what I'd call "vengefull villain asshole", as he was somehow relatable. And I was explicitly talking about muscel-villains like Bobba and Maul who are usually a-hole grunts and not complexer main villains. Or neither Smith's Deadshot before.

reply

You know why Black Manta is the "new Bobba Fett"? He went out in almost the exact same way. I thought it when I saw it and I still do. FAR too derivative with that scene.

reply

Yeah, but difference is Black Manta crawled out of the Sarlac pit for more at the end.

And he handed Aqua's ass over to him so that Aqua nearly bled out. Aqua was lucky. Next film the ass-whopping continues.

reply

As it should.

Aquaman is a loser....tattoos don't change it.

reply

Yes- he's a bit of a clown and gets his ass kicked royally. I like exactly that about him.

Boy, you MCUs will soon try to migrate in masses from the Man Child Universe to DC when Captain Marvel finally arrives. She is so super strong and perfect - she even un-Sues Rey.

And don't get your hopes up, Wood-Face Larson won't smile at you just for her concern that you could ask her for her number. Her only weakness amidst all her perfection...have fun..

reply

See, again you're an idiot. I am quite confident I've read more DC comics for more years and have a better knowledge of their REAL universe than you do.

Because you're obviously young(ish)...at least mentally and obviously stupid.

reply

the fanboy dost protest too much, methinks.

I did not intend you hurt your feelings for Wood-Face Larson. She is sweet, especially her Stan Lee memorial photo was....so Her(o).

LOL at "mentally and obviously stupid", how mad you got.

reply

Not a vengeful villain a whole. That was his whole mantra. He threw Black Panther off a waterfall. While claiming he is the true king.

Bobba and Maul were not muscle villains. Just really good at what they do.

reply

"Muscle" is a term used for secondary villains who are not in charge, enforcers. That's exactly what Maul and Boba, or Jango and Manta were. They were awesome in that regard. Manat could be in Star wars and would look kewl, the artdesign design is iconic.

If Black Panter would fight Aquaman, he would become Black Manta. If he fought Jabba, he would become Black Bantha.

reply

I thought it looked great.

reply

MASKED RIDER ACTIVATE ACTIVATE!

reply

It looked like it was made of plastic.

reply

Black Manta looked perfect. It was the character itself that was so horribly done. They got the look right and nothing else. Hugely disappointed with that.

Black Mantis, however, sounds cool. Does he use Mantis style kung-fu? I pre-like this mystery character.

reply

I agree 💯

reply

I was thinking power rangers too haha
