Critics' ratings

I've expected the ratings to be a lot better, nothing in the 90% area, but still better than where it's now. Shift in tone and humor are closer to what Marvel's been doing so far, there was no studio interference, lead seems like a person who's more public friendly than other DC leads (Affleck and Cavil), initial reviews were good too and there was no embargo like with BvS and JL.

MC ratings did go up a few points but still 55 isn't something to brag about, and the RT dropped all the way down to 63% and it's not that far from being rotten (top critics had it rotten from the get go).

Aquaman will (has) earned big money, perhaps it will be DC's first 1B movie, but still these are rather poor critics' ratings. Audience ratings are better but that's not the topic here, mostly because that can be easily skewed in any direction just like the IMDb rating.

They’re all a fickle spiteful lot. Their anti-DC bias has been stoked for years.

reply

I 100% agree with you, but I will not let these bias fucking critics ruin my hype for this movie or any up coming DC movie... never!

reply

If this had the Marvel/Disney logo, they'd splooge all over it.

Critics rarely fairly or honestly review a film because they view them through ideological and (pseudo) intellectual biases. The scores have nothing to do with the actual quality of the film in question, it's more the critic wanting to feel intellectually superior by saying how much they hate a film they deem stupid or love films they deem smart or line with their dogma.

The Transformers films are a good example of this. The scores for the five Bay films are much lower than they should be simply because Bay directed them and Bay can't be allowed to be reviewed well because in their eyes Bay is the 'big stupid action guy'. Meanwhile they bend over backwards to praise Bumblebee despite very little change in production or quality simply because a different person was put behind the camera.

Same can be said for their utter adulation of incredibly mediocre Marvel films like Black Panther and Thor Ragnarok.

Unfortunately most people are unable or unwilling to form unique opinions of their own and instead look to arbitrary cultural authorities like self proclaimed critics to be assigned a position. Which is really the sad thing here. People live their lives less for the joy of personal experience and more for pursuit of adherence to a social or cultural body. We may shed the pomp and rituals of religion but the mentality and behaviors of religion are conjoined to us.

Critics in that light aren't much more than street preachers offering constant assurance to the flock that they're part of the smart group, they're part of the good group.

This is the most condescending post ever

reply

its not Anti DC , its just that DCEU movies have been garbage, wonder woman was good , aquaman was ok

reply

It isn't a very good film...

reply

I concur....similar vibe to the first Thor movie. Good, but definitely not great.

reply

I agree. It's not especially good.

reply

The RT audience score is through the roof at 87%.

reply

That's very selective f you, talking only the parts of the RT you like but neglecting others. Critics' score was a valid measurement of the quality while it was at 78%, but it was "abandon ship" when it dropped.

reply

No...just commenting on how high the audience score is but thanks for reading all kinds of extra into it.

reply

It's easy to get that audience score up when previous films have been a serious letdown. People went in expecting another Justice League, and got something closer to Wonder Woman.

Hell, I bet Man of Steel would've gotten around an 84% audience score if it was released today. It's already not that far off with 75%.

Critics are going to be harder to please because they're going to base it on criteria other than "is this just more crap from DC?"

reply

Really? The trailer for this film looks shockingly bad ...

Urban Dictionary Definition:

"I never listen or care about the Critics" Extremely contemporary phrase invented by the DC Fanboys after the DCEU movies started to obtain rotten ratings as if they were old organic garbage in a can. A phrase that most probably will get discontinued once two DCEU films manage two Certified Fresh ratings in a row. Also a phrase that conspicuously was never used when the Dark Knight Trilogy was on top of the genre.
