I'd really love to watch this, but I hate reading subs, anyone know if this will be released in ENG LANG??? Seems like a no brainer that these foreign films should be released in ENG if they want to make serious money...who wants to read a movie, books are for reading, movies are for watching and listening too, duh...

I don't like 'reading' movies either, but this one wasn't that bad. Plus, that's what the rewind button is for, if you miss something while reading, just go back a bit and watch it again.
Besides, there are plenty of great movies out there that you're missing out on if you don't watch them simply because they're not in English. Pan's Labyrinth and The Devil's Backbone come to mind (yes, I'm a Del Toro fan, lol).

though I wouldn't go as far as calling people who like dubbed flicks as being "retarded", I personally can't stand dubbed, I feel like the audio is out of sync and I find it a huge distraction.
Luckily for me, I can read at a speed that lets me watch the visuals while being able to read the dialog at the same time.

There's nothing wrong with the original poster preferring dubbed films. Dubbing and subtitles both have their pros and cons.
People who complain about people not liking subtitles are the worst kinds of ignorant film snobs.
Neither dubbing or subtitles are ideal. The ideal way to enjoy the film would just be to understand the language. But I don't speak Japanese, or Swedish, or Spanish...so I read subtitles. It's not ideal, but it works. If you prefer dubbing, that's fine too.

While I can read perfectly english it´s harder for me to understand, and in this case I rather see this movie in the original language ( with all the numbness of japanese actors ) and with english subtitles. It may not help train my english spoken but it does help my reading and gosh, that japanese acting is epic in all his awfulness
shareYeah.. I just bought the english subtitled version on EBay for $11. I wouldn't want to see this english dubbed really. I'd rather US Studios just make an english version with American actors/actresses. Probably will never happen, as the show isn't as popular in America as it is in Japan.
I already own all the anime version of Star Blazers. I haven't watched SB:The Bolar Wars though, as I can't stand the english actor's voices. I don't know why they got new voice actors, it's horrible.

I agree with DonNova. Why anyone would want to watch a dubbed movie is beyond me. It completely ruins all context. The voices never match and it is always obviously dubbed.
Original soundtrack only for me. I flat out refuse to watch a dubbed version and I've even waited months after a movie I really want to see is released because only dubbed is available at first.
I have no problem reading and keeping up with what's happening on screen.
I wouldn't go as far as to say someone who prefers dubbed is retarded, but they're definitely a bit special.

You should probably be thankful for a subtitled version, it was done illegally, but that's easy.
For an illegal english dubbed version you'd need a cast. I don't think there are enough organized nerds out there.
So until someone in America buys the rights to this film it won't happen. :(

I asked one of the Anime dealers at a recent convention here in the US and the license distribution in the US is under talks.
shareThere is already a deal for an Australian release, so there will be a legit version with English subs. I seriously doubt they will dub it-unlike with animation, dubbed live-action almost always looks awful and unconvincing. Reading isn't that hard, at least not for those of us who grew up with books, instead of typo-ridden Internet boards.

I grew to dislike watching films dubbed in English. It takes away half an actor's performance, not being able to hear how they delivered the line, even if it's not in English. A substitute actor can only simulate them. It only takes a second to absorb a text of line on the screen; have your mind synced with the shot and it's perfectly fine. Even if it's Japanese anime I'm watching, I will go for the subtitle option (western voices on Japanese characters clash badly.)
Thankfully, DVD's & Blu-rays have made dubbing a thing of the distant past, with the multiple subtitle options they come with for many cultures.

Going back on-topic after the thread hijack via insults, I just don't understand why an English dub would be so hard to do. Surely the foley, sound effects and music are already on isolated tracks. Voiceover artists can't cost that much. Historically, quite a few really cheap and obscure Japanese movies have had dubbed versions. It really can't be that expensive to do, and it would seem to be a sure bet to recoup the investment since they know there's a pre-existing market in American Star Blazers fans.

Correction, there are at least official Hong Kong Region 3 releases with Cantonese dubs...and I can confirm that unlike many American releases of foreign film, it is the complete (with the 20-minute long ending scene) without no cuts.
But Takuya Kimura ploughed his pay and added a few millions yens to "up" the digital effects of the final film-- so as a co-investor as well as an actor and an actual fan of the anime, it stands to good reason that he would control the distribution rights to the film firmly.... instead of "selling out" to foreign distributors just to "tap foreign markets."
I think Japanese have figured out what happened to Dragonball, Space Battleship Yamato, Valley of the Wind and all the classic anime properties of 20th century that were sold outright to foreign markets without any controls/stipulations...
But the good thing about this is-- no *beep* re-makes.
