This movie is extremely racist. Not a single afro-japanese in it. I find that offense that once again light skinned people save the world.

I sure hope you are all being sarcasitc. If so the humor escapes me. This is a Japanese film, made in Japan, by a Japanese Production company with Japanese actors.

This movie is based on a cartoon that first aired in Japan in the mid 70s with no intention of every being released outside Japan (the creators did not expect it to become so popular outside of Japan) SO all the characters were and are JAPANESE. It was only after "season 2" did non Japanese characters appear and given non Japanese names.

No one complains when a "Bollywood" musical doesnt have non Indians in it. Or When a Chinese film like "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" only has Asians in it.

Fact of the matter is that non Asian Actors in Asia (Especially in Japan) are few and far between and are regulated to playing the foreigner/tourist, comic relief or a character that is specifically written as non Asian.

To find this movie or calling it racist is clutching at straws.

I like the fact that the original Macross series took the different tack of featuring an international crew, with Japanese, Caucasian Americans, African Americans, Caucasian Europeans, etc. The "captain"/admiral/general/commanding officer of the ship was an Italian-Irishman.

Of course all the characters still spoke Japanese, since it was an anime series produced for a domestic Japanese audience.

But it still did a better job of portraying a ship representing and defending the entire world in an epic space war.

When they do finally make a live action Macross, I hope they use lots of different languages for the characters, in order to continue to demonstrate that eclectic, international aspect.

That said, I have no particular problem with this movie having an all Japanese cast. Just like I don't have a problem with most American movies having all American casts.
