What are your top 3 favorite scenes in Sherlock?

My top 3 scenes of the entire Sherlock series and which I can watch over and over again...

1. well, the recent I Love You scene in the finale zoomed to no. 1. It was emotional and very suspenseful with the clock running down and Moriarty's voice in the background saying tick-tock, tick-tock.... When Molly finally said "I love you," the relief among all three characters was so intensely felt. Great acting!.

2. Scandal in Belgravia: A naked Irene meets Sherlock. I loved the reaction on his face when he first saw her. He can read people in 2 seconds but she was all question marks. He looks over at John and can tell what he shaved with, who he got drunk with last night and that he had a date later but turning towards Irene again-- only question marks. Very funny scene.

3. Scandal in Belgravia: Sherlock solves the code on Irene's phone. This was one of the sexiest scenes ever...there was no kissing, sex or nudity but only his voice whispering in her ear and his hand lightly touching her hand. It felt super sensual and he only used his voice!

And there you have it... an incredibly accurate description of Benedict Cumberbatch's voice. I think I could listen to that voice all flippin' day!

I might think of others if I spent more time on it, but the first three that come to mind are:

1. Buckingham Palace scene from ASiB.

2. Tower of London scene from TRF.

3. John/Sherlock meeting scene in ASiP.

Agreed very much, patty. I don't have a ranking on individual scenes or anything, but these all came to mind when I tried to think of the three best.

Buckingham Palace is definitely my #1. To vary a bit from patty's list, maybe I'd put Sinnerman at #2, then the last scene of ASiP as #3 (although I can't say which I like more, that or John & Sherlock's first meeting.)

ILOVEYOU? Best? Wtf?

Safely in my WORST list. Come on, this would not be enough even for a standard latino telenovela (reminded me of Raj in TBBT sitcom, insisting "say you love him... say it!"), but the whole Euros episode is flawed on so many levels, so it "fits" here. Though not this is a just a little faux pas, not the massive one like the "Aquarium Disaster" scene (would not make it to the hollywood action telenovela B-movie: heroic superspy-turned-mom bodyguard suicidally saving little Sherl from the bullet... SRSLY?).

On the other hand, "Belgravia" episode is full of great scenes, my favourite Irene Adler scene is "meadow sofa" investigation ("brainy is the new sexy"). It's quite remarkable that people value Bergravia so high, find their "best scenes" here athough, frankly, the plot was quite sub-par (if it was badly executed we would complain: sex photo blackmail episode? really? Moftiss should start drinking to spice up imagination!).

"Meadow sofa" scene was my all-time favorite.

I have a friend who visits occasionally, and we often end up skipping through ASiB to rewatch specific scenes. In addition to Buckingham Palace, we also love the one where John beats up Sherlock (at Sherlock's request, although John gets rather more energetic about it than Sherlock anticipated), and of course when Sherlock meets Irene, and when Sherlock explains the death of the man in the river, and when Sherlock and Irene are making eyes at each other and John starts offering baby names, and...

reply

The sex photo blackmail part was totally irrelevant though.

Respect my Cumberbatch!

1. Sherlock solving the *Sherlocked* password on Irene's phone. Unbelievably intense and sexy scene. Some of it was improvised by Benedict which makes it even better. Also the music 😍

2. Roof scenes of course, the one with Moriarty and the jumping scene. Heartbreaking

3. The Shakespeare monologue ending with "cuppa tea" in The Lying Detective. Such great acting from Benedict.

4. Deduction scene in A study in Pink (Everybody shut up!)

5. Sherlock and Mycroft smoking in the morgue in Scandal.

6. I love you scene in The Final Problem

7. Best man speech

I could go on and on...

Respect my Cumberbatch!

4. Deduction scene in A study in Pink (Everybody shut up!)

Damn, this should definitely have been in my TOP3 as well. "Anderson, face the other way you're putting me off" (and Lestrade's "Anderson, turn your back"), "you lower the IQ of the whole street" etc.  Poor Anderson, wasn't there any way they could have had him at least do a little cameo in series 4? But then there are so many supporting characters I would have liked to see back, if just on the background (Anderson, Sally, Anthea, Janine...)

Speaking of Janine, I loved all of the scenes with her including Sherlock's proposal to get into CAM's office.

1. Molly saying, "I don't count" to Sherlock in The Reichenbach Fall. She got an enormous amount of pain into just 3 words, and Sherlock's profound shock at how much he'd hurt her was deeply touching. This scene should also have proved to Moffat that the "I love you" scene *absolutely* had to have a follow-up, because this probably wouldn't be my favorite scene without the "you do count...I've always trusted you" follow-up.

Sherlock doesn't have to love Molly, no one is obligated to love anyone else, but he had no right to negate her as a person, especially when he relied on her help so much. Those two scenes represented enormous growth for Sherlock as a person.

2. Irene Adler absolutely *flooring* Sherlock when she walks in naked in A Scandal in Belgravia. I actually like this scene most because of Watson's lines and reactions: When Irene says "I think he [Watson] knows exactly where to look," you can actually see Watson battling not to look any lower than her eyes. He's literally twitching with the effort and oh so adorably succeeds.

3. Sherlock's first deduction monologue in A Study in Pink. Because let's be honest, who didn't fall hopelessly in love with Sherlock/Benedict right then and there? I never thought anyone would equal Jeremy Brett's sexy Sherlock, but Benedict proved me wrong.

Honorable mentions: Lestrade gaping at Molly at the Xmas party, Lestrade bellowing "Not really!" at the hungover Watson, and Lestrade lecturing Holmes during the "drugs bust" in A Study in Pink. Lestrade, I love you -- you should have gotten the girl.

Sherlock's shock was not because he hurt her bur because he suddenly realized Molly is quite observant, he was manipulating her and using her all this time thinking she is dumb but realized she knew his game but indulged him. And this is very bad for the character of Moly- she is desperately besotted with him and a masochist /in TFP- I love you scene- she was desperate to hear these words knowing they are forced and AFTER all these years?!?/

"When Irene says "I think he [Watson] knows exactly where to look," you can actually see Watson battling not to look any lower than her eyes."

John really resists to have once-over but the funny thing is how progressively annoyed at Adler he becomes with her agressive seducing games all with him being so into women.
I don't know if you notice what Moffatiss did with the "title" The Woman- in ACD canon Sherlock Holmes gives Irene Adler HIMSELF this title being the woman who challenged his intellect but here Mycroft tells Sherlock Irene Adler is professionally known as The Woman. Sherlock never "invents" the title giving her the significance from the canon. So we have
ACD- significance + platonic, BBC Sherlock- not significant title + heavily hinted sex.

The final showdown between sherlock and morriarty on the roof. I would say the abominable brides one on the waterfall was better because they actually fought each other but they ruined it when John came in.

The first scene with mycroft. Great acting from gattis.

Hound of Baskerville when he comes in covered in blood with a harpoon complaining no taxis would take him

reply

Agreed on first scene with Mycroft!

reply

I was rewatching The Abominable Bride and I totally agree about the waterfall confrontation. I thought "Wow, I didn't remember it being this good", then Watson came on and it got all weird and trying to be funny and it ruined it a bit.

reply

Yeah, incredibly sexy scene. So intimate.

Best moment: when he's aggressively pressing the second last letter, so sexual.
Respect my Cumberbatch!

I'm glad someone noticed that besides me. That movement was so slight and fast, you could miss it. It looked like he was making a thrusting movement (you know, when you have sex) but at the same time saying f#ck you!

reply

Yes, exactly! I bet it was Benedict improvising!

Respect my Cumberbatch!

reply

I think I read that he improvised leaning so that his face was in shadow when saying "I took your pulse" because it was so heartless.

reply

Too many from Scandal to list, really.

Also, the meeting between Mycroft and John in ASiP.
