Must've been the same animation team behind the virtual world stuff, right? It's uncanny. A virus hacks and steals everyone's accounts from around the world.

I loved the film, and those nods to Digimon.

Didn't Hosada direct a recent Digimon movie?

he directed the exact digimon movie that this movie is "related" to. I'm guessing that maybe enjoyed the story he created for that film so he wanted to try and remake that digimon movie called "Our War Games" for a wider audience than just Digimon fans. Thus we have Summer Wars :D. I like both but I honestly think I enjoy Summer Wars more.

Edit: After finding a copy of "Our War Games" I can say without a doubt that I enjoy Summer Wars more. Maybe its the fact that I've grown out of my Digimon Phase, but I just thought the story of Summer Wars, while similar when it comes to the computer related stuff, was told better and had better pacing. It also didn't rely on you having to know the characters before hand which was a plus.

Yep. Same director as the digimon film "our wargame" which made up the middle section of the US digimon movie, which is the part it's reminding you of.

Haha I watched this thinking the exact same thing! It made me really happy, and I was even happier when I looked it up and found out it was the same director.

Yea, it's very very similar. A cereal internet world that is being attacked by a malicious entity. It quickly upgrades itself and becomes rather unstoppable. It becomes to powerful it seems to be influencing the world. It even has the ability to kill off our heroes. With the whole world watching the final battle strangers show their support to help them win. You can't stop gravity as the object falling at them still hits.

I loved the Digimon movie too and this totally reminded me of it
