Product placement

I was somewhat surprised to see the amount of product placement in this film, and it made me try to think of other animation films that may have some but so far I'm coming up short.

For the record, I spotted product placement for Dr. Pepper, Dell, Microsoft Windows 7, Adidas, Yamaha and the Apple iPhone. Did you see more?

Drop it like it's legal precedent!

The car driven by the son was a Mazda.

The beer was Sapporo i think. And true, a lot of brands like this, strange in an anime to see as much

reply

The CRT monitor was Sony.

The movie has to be paid for somehow, it takes a load off the company to have sponsors, Evangelion 1.0 has quite a bit of product placement too, but I think it was in one scene as a remember.

The DS that one guy uses near the end. . .

I rather like it, actually. I think it makes the people and their world seem more real. Real people use Dell computers running Microsoft software, drink Dr Pepper, use iPhones, drive familiar makes of car. What would be the alternative? I suppose you could invent brands, like the Acme everything in Loony Tunes; that might be quite funny but not really necessary.

And if it helps to pay for the making of the films, carry on, say I!

reply

I have to disagree. Real people DO NOT drink Dr. Pepper!
