Beautiful to watch

This is one beautiful movie. Just seeing the light makes me feel good. There's just something that the French do right with light in their movies. I can't even explain what I mean; however, I recognize it when I see it.

I know this is a remake and an adaptation of a novel, but I can't help but feel that something was missing with the telling of the story. I found my attention unraveling at about the halfway mark.
