So, basically, this film's a bucolic feelgood romance about a girl who falls in love with her rapist. Does anyone else have a problem with this?

Exactly. She even says something to the effect that she got overwhelmed by sitting on the bicycle behind him and holding him around the waist became overwhelming, implying she lost control.
