Good film, but I found the ending to be problematic: Spoilers

Candy was vulnerable and victimized throughout the entire film. Time and again, she was forced to use sex in order to meet her desperate needs. So it was sad that the same kind of desperate exchange took place at the end. Of course it can be argued that she had sex with Evan of her free will, but I think she did it because she felt she owed him. If the money weren't exchanged, I might feel that she simply offered him an experience she knew he might never have.

Welp, Evan was the main character and we was saw his development which was basically he loses his mom, is forced to become independent and live on his own, finds a girlfriend, goes through bad relationship, and then "climax." You're right about Candy's character, her character is forced to have the same resolutions all the way up to the end, not showing any growth. At least she is moving on in pursuit of a better life, that is the only upside.

I didn't have a problem with that, I thought she decided to give him an experience he wanted and most likely would never get because people are inherently petty. Let's face it, most humans have unacceptable bodies (through societies standard's) and come with major issues, yet people still find ways to sleep together.

My problem with the last 20 minutes was the pacing. The first hour and 10 minutes flowed together really well and then the film makers decided to do all these nonsensical camera shots and slow the pace way down. Very annoying. I still liked it enough to give it a 7, but if the pacing towards the end were better and the "artsy" shots removed, I could see myself giving it an 8.

If she weren't such a vulnerable character I wouldn't disagree with you, but she had always used her sexuality to get herself out of tough situations. It was basically all she had and it's ultimately what she fell back on at the end, even though the film tries to paint it as this altruistic offering.

I think I just viewed the scene more from Evan's point of view and how much it meant/would mean to him. Let's be honest though, the film also tries to trick viewers into thinking the Evan character was going to do something terrible by using shots reminiscent of Psycho or The Shining.

Not sure if you're over-analyzing the Candy character or I'm not thinking about this enough. Then again I'm a firm believer that if you can use sex to solve a problem/make yourself/someone else feel better then you definitely should, lol. It works!

Honestly, the movie could have ended with a kiss on the lips for me and meant the same -or- another hug with Candy holding back tears and it would have been better.

Yeah, agreed (last part). I also agree about seeing it as altruistic from Evan's point-of-view.

I thought it was a very good film the way it was & I was surprised by the ending but thought it was good. Candy felt that she owed Evan the sexual experience and I thought it was nice. I think Evan's brother could've been more attentive besides giving him a large amount of money.

I think that Candy was vulnerable for most of the movie but at least she was make her life for the better by moving to another town. I think part of the reason she was vulnerable was because of her abusive ex-boyfriend.

I actually think her having sex with Evan at the end was different than the other times she fell back on sex to fix her situations. I base this off of the look she gave him when he said "I forgive you". It came across like she knew he meant it, that he truly didn’t fault her for it or would hold it over her head in the future. True forgiveness like that is rare in general but especially so for her character. She had already gotten the forgiveness she was seeking, she didn’t need to use the sex to fix anything like she had in previous situations. She did it because she just wanted to give him something he would probably never experience.
