Sequel in the works

Just read on rottentomatoes.

I'm psyched. I don't give a crap what anyone says. The 1st one was funny as hell. I feel bad for the people that didn't get the humor.

I agree. Great news. I hope it happens.

I'm looking forward to it. Although, I'm incredibly surprised because this was a flop even with it's small budget.

Yet already called a cult favorite. The following is from several articles saying pretty much the same thing.

I’ve got a better idea: yes *beep* way. Jorma Taccone‘s MacGruber didn’t really make a big splash when it opened back in the spring of 2010 after a riotous premiere at SXSW (fine, it tanked), but the action comedy has proven to have the kind of staying power and cult appeal that only outstanding comedies can garner. To put it simply – the movie is funny, but it gets to be hilarious after multiple viewings.

Of course, with Will Forte‘s idiot ex-special operative always down to blow things up, could there possibly be a sequel to MacGruber on the way? Maybe? Please? Well, according to an awesome exclusive over at ScreenCrush, who recently sat down with Taccone, the answer is yes. As far as details, they are slim, but Taccone did reveal that “it would be me, Will and John [Solomon] writing it again. Every time I hang out with Will, we talk about all our cool ideas for the sequel. We have the idea for it and we have a title, but I won’t tell you what it is.” He also let on that they “don’t want to jump the shark that soon” when it comes to a MacGruber and Vicki St. Elmo (Kristen Wiig) baby. Taccone did, however, share that the next MacGruber would take place at Christmas, just like his favorite film Die Hard.

Beyond that, we don’t know much. Much of the cast and crew behind the first film have jam-packed schedules, and Wiig’s will only get more crammed now that she’s retired from Saturday Night Live. Yet, Taccone does admit that “it would be a shame not to do another one.” Yes, yes it would be.

Great news! Made my week.

I hope Phillips is back for this one as well as the "Brides" chick. The team should stay together. I hope it's been confirmed!

it wont happen.forte confirmed it today.fvck, fvck, fvck!!
if only (most of) you people paid atention 2 years ago we would be watching macgruber 2 right now...but you didnt and now we are fvcked.
which is a shame because it was a great fvcking movie and this is a fvcking *beep* of a day

They're still writing the script. They just need someone to fund it. So it's possible it will happen, however unlikely.

Will Forte says 2/3 of the outline of the movie has been finished. I would LOVE a sequel, but chances are it will be direct to video since part 1 bombed at the box office. I saw it in an empty theater opening day... Also sad that such a hilarious movie isn't appreciated enough.

Four years for 2/3rds of a script? Don't hold your breath.

There's gotta be a way they can make one for $10 million or less, and get some halfway known actor to play the villain to pull in some fans. Also, the chick from Bridesmaids will likely be in the sequel as well, and she is even more a commodity now. So that could potentially be enough right there to put just the right amount of butts in seats to break this baby even.

Pull it off, Forte!

The original had a 10M budget and did NOT make that back. And Kristen Wiig is not going to be in it.

It they somehow make a sequel (don't hold your breath like I said) it will be for a lot less than 10M.
