The lowest-rated film on my list of favourites...

3.8? Congratulations IMDb community. If it doesn't have superheroes, imaginary kingdoms or a hundred million dollar budget, then there isn't really much point in young filmmakers even bothering. Makes you wonder what the first-time genre efforts by Carpenter, Romero and Dante would be rated if they were released today. The current crop of young movie buffs seem allergic to anything low-budget, which is why we're seeing less and less new talent emerging, especially in British film.

F by Johannes Roberts was another fairly good and effective UK genre film that currently has a 4.8 rating because it dared to be ambiguous rather than spelling out its entire plot.

God help young filmmakers if they can't produce a Citizen Kane on the first time out. It's not as if movies like Night of the Living Dead, Evil Dead or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre have writing that would rival Faulkner or performances that scream Oscar bait.

Maybe if they'd got someone who could act and got them to play a likeable character?

reply

Well obviously she can act if she was so unlikable, seeing as the character was supposed to be confrontational and unpleasant. The actress is supposedly very sweet in real life.

Miss Winstone was a student at a college I taught at. She was a P.I.T.A. then, a right little princess trading on her dad's name. She's a zero talent wannabe and this dog mess of a movie is about as good as she will ever get.

Now wait... the next post will be from Critical_Beatdown....

You never know them all.

I'd say she's done pretty well then. I think it's a fun and funny little film. The only serious problem I had with it was the very obvious CGI gore, which stood out like a sore thumb in several spots. I'm not an acting teacher, though. I just call it like I personally see it. I admit I have no interest in, nor do I follow, professional criticism or awards shows. I'm pretty out of the loop on what's considered "good" or "successful" in a general sense anyway.
