Isn't there anyone who knows how to do even the most basic security?

I get that they can never really secure whatever space they're in because whatever they do to protect the place, the producers will come up with something to usurp it. However there's no excuse for the complete f#cking lack of security (Seasons 1&2). When they do finally come up with an idea to have someone on watch, people go to sleep, or otherwise shirk their responsibilities. These morons are so oblivious that 80% of the time the marauders have to yell out or otherwise make themselves noticed just to get the colonists to even look.

And the responses? Jesus Christ is it pathetic. Season 2 was far worse than 1, I suppose because they had no real fenced in area, but nobody was willing to do anything in response that made any sense.

One person attacks, robs them for hours, they hide in their house. 20 people attack and they try to fight them 2 vs. 20.

You got 9 people there, most of them doing jack sh!t most of the day, have a watch rotation. It's been done for thousands of years. Have 2 people on watch as security 24/7. During the day, have one person on a roof or other lookout point constantly scanning, have the other closely patrol around the main building. At night, still have 2 people on watch, but instead have them both inside, rotating between keeping a lookout on the roof, and walking around the potential entrance points. 2 people can keep each other awake.

Rotate the watches every 5 hours, everyone learns how to keep their eyes open. That's the most valuable aspect, if all the colonists are occasionally looking up from what they're doing, scanning the area, nobody is going to sneak up on them.

Of course the next step is to train everyone to work together. Anyone past season 1 should know they're going to get attacked, or figure it out after the first attack. Get armed, and fight together. Instead I've watched now 2 seasons of people running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Sometimes they're attacked in broad daylight by 2 or 3 marauders, there's 8 f$cking people there all armed and just standing around saying "What should we do?" back and forth to each other, and one guy who is out by himself against 3 marauders. How stupid can people get?

They can build fantastic machinery, but they can't stand in formation or come up with pre-planned responses to predictable events. I suppose it boils down to the producers feeding them build ideas, but not security ideas.
