What I learned from Season 1

While I have actually enjoyed this show I can't help but make fun of some points:

Survival is possible if you have the post apocalyptic dream team.

Anything is possible and you can build anything...as long as what you need has been conveniently provided before hand - and you have specialists who can build it.

The need for things to help build more things is worth sending people out for...even if it means leaving the home base severely under protected.

Doctors and nurses are going to be some of the most important people we can get in our group. So I will risk them all and send them out to get medical supplies.

Those scary guys trying to break in and steal your stuff, they won't really hurt you.

Even though it was proven to me that there are people out there who would step on me for what I have, it is OK to advertise that I occupy a warehouse with several other people.

Creature comforts, like electricity or a shower, are more important then security.

The camera crew that follows you around won't protect you from angry mobs, marauders or similar.

I have to admit I was bothered by what was supplied in the warehouse. It wasn't realistic--nor was the grouping of people. You're not going to stumble across four engineers, two medical people, and three construction specialists, nor will you stumble across a sanctuary with everything you need to rebuild society ready supplied. I applaud their creativity, and learned some things that might be useful, but overall I did find it greatly contrived.

I will say, tho, when this happens, I'm finding a handyman to be on my crew. I can fish/hunt, and growing up on a farm I understand how important it is to get fresh food going. This group was not very food smart. I would find myself yelling at them!! ha!

Season 2 is a lot better than the first. The cast is more down to earth, regular people. They do have skills, but they aren't science engineers and the like.

And also, in Season 2, the attacks from the outsiders is a lot more physical. A LOT more physical than the joke attacks of S1.

Long story short, if you liked Season 1 even slightly, even with the shortcomings that the OP mentioned, you will probably really like S2.

I did finally watch season 2. Yes it was better but I found myself yelling at the people for not doing simple things...like create a secure perimeter.

Every time the issue was brought up, people just didn't seem to want to deal with it. Then something would happen, the issue would get brought up again and then people sort of would sit around with dumb looks on their faces and then they would just go about doing their own thing.

I hated Jim, but, I would've had him think security precautions and hunting. I agreed with Tick when he said Jim was able but they just kept beating him down so he didn't have the self esteem.

Reno was a joke. He botched the hostage negotiation when trying to get Becka back. He allowed the kidnappers to leverage too much power out of the colonists and it cost them a lot of food. If it had been someone with skills who got kidnapped, then maybe that much supplies lost wouldn't have been an issue. But Becka...a model...who can do what?

But I have to admit, I loved Tick. Not because he was all former military sniper guy. I loved him because you could tell he was playing along. Several times he would have this attitude of "Um, yeah, sure...OK, I will play pretend with you guys."
That always made me laugh.

You can't fake good art any more than you can fake a good meal.

And children do not survive. No kids.
