Didn't Zac Efron once say he wanted to be like Leo DiCaprio?

If so, what's up with these movies that require him to take his shirt off?

In most movies he's in essentially the "piece of meat" guy.

reply

He's not as talented as Leo. never has been tbh. his career is doomed by the time he's 35.

reply

35?! Its over after this trainwreck!

His choice of roles is definitely not the caliber of Leonardo DiCaprio's roles after he achieved international fame. Sure, Efron was a huge teen idol, but these attempts at comedies have grown stale, especially because he's not the key draw to any of these comedic movies. He's literally like a good looking prop in them. The comedic talents of Neighbors and Neighbors 2 were Seth Rogan and, to a lesser extent, Dave Franco and Rose Byrne (all of whom are proven comedic talents). Anything funny in Dirty Grandpa was courtesy of Robert DeNiro and Aubrey Plaza, and Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates was driven by Plaza, Anna Kendrick, and Adam Devine's brand of humor. Even movies like That Awkward Moment were more reliant on romance than comedy.

In the ten years since DiCaprio did Romeo + Juliet and Titanic, he had accomplished Catch Me If You Can, The Aviator, Gangs of New York, The Departed, and Blood Diamond. He also had been nominated for Three Oscars by that point, and was a well-established producer with Appian Way.

In the ten years since Efron did High School Musical and Hairspray, he has been in teen comedies and romance movies (the most successful of which being Neighbors 2). He's also attempted dramas with Parkland, The Paperboy, and We Are Your Friends, however those were all critical and financial failures.

Also, Leonardo DiCaprio has had different "looks" over the years for sure, but nothing as been as extreme or forced as how Efron looks in Baywatch. Like... Clearly there is a bad mix of steroids and plastic surgery harming this guy's looks. And though the Rock is always entertaining, Efron pales next to him (physically and in terms of talent).

I hope just 5% of imdb posted with half of your intelligence. Good day sir.

reply

Zac Efron just does comedies, because that's the only roles he get's offered.

reply

That was back when he was High School Musical Zac, and people thought he could act and was up and coming.

Now he just has to rely on his looks.

Zax Efron is a talented actor. lets be honest. It's the amount roles offered between everyone who wants to be Dicaprio are in short demand. he's acted well in some movies that got no attention. So the smart thing to do is take what works. he might be a comedy guy like Bruce Willis was before Die Hard.
An actor acts to stay relevant. Then who know, one day he gets that role that has us scratching our heads saying, "this looks pretty good."

reply

Its kinda hard to get good movie roles when you used to be a Disney star

reply

Joseph Gordon Levitt and Ryan Gosling have made the transition from Disney Star to adult actor quite well. And I would also say that Keri Russell, Hilary Duff, and Hayden Panettiere may not be movie stars, but in their television careers they have made wise career choices and are all currently starring on successful television series.

reply

Eeeh, he's really not that talented though... Certainly nowhere near DiCaprio.

reply

The thing about DiCaprio is that he's picky with his roles, always been even from the start. If I remember correctly he could've been in the Star Wars prequels but he turned it down. He's also been wise to stay away from franchise movies like Marvel movies as well. He knows one can get lazy and complacent or, worse, typecast.

Sometimes, it's what you pass on that is more crucial.

reply

It seems like the moment he bulked up he went from wanting to be a serious respectable actor to being the jock meathead bad comedy type actor

reply

I think we can safely file away that dweeb fantasy of his the guy is stuck on stupid movies, let him remain there.

reply

He's not that strong of an actor. He's also looking far older than he actually is. His body is defined but his face has aged to the point you'd think he and John Stamos were born the same year.

reply

It sucks because Zac's actually a really talented actor; I wish he'd seek out more serious roles to showcase his abilities. But being perpetual eye candy means easier money and keeps his name out there longer (at least for the short term), I guess.

I've never fooled anyone. I've let people fool themselves.

He's a better actor than given credit for but perhaps he's not getting offered good serious roles.

you mean a self righteous douchebag who claims to advocate sustainable energy but flys a private jet, charters one of the biggest yachts available and acts ll high almighty?
He could still achieve all this...

...but they hung him anyway.
Hanged, Ami. Your father was not a tapestry.
