Why is the villain played by an Indian?

It's ironic, considering how desperate Hollywood is to display its PC credentials (judging by the trailer they'll be plenty of jokes at the expense of white people), that the film's villain will be played by an Indian actress. Do they really think giving her a European name (i.e. Victoria Leeds) will distract everyone from the fact that Priyanka Chopra clearly looks Indian?

Stupid modern Hollywood. Always trying to force PC values down everyone's throats, and yet still always getting it embarrassingly wrong. At least 80s/90s Hollywood didn't pretend to be PC.

reply

Don't be stupid Harv, an Asian villain is the least of this film's problems and wasn't on the mind of the crackheads who conceived of this remake.

reply

I guess. But it still bugs me.

reply

It's typical dumb yank bubblegum brain-dead comedy you're looking for political correctness in the wrong place.

reply

Yet they still have a "You people!" joke and courtesy fistbump between two black characters (although I'm still hazy as to whether Dwyane Johnson is black or not) prominently displayed in the trailer, in order, no doubt, to win over black and PC audiences.

reply

Why are you reliving the nightmare low brow humour in the trailer to me???? Lol as if I needed reminding and the Rock is..... You know what I have no idea.

reply

Because it can't be the English or the French everytime.

reply

Sure, but why can't it be an American, seeing as they're also the heroes? Or are Americans not capable of such evil? 

reply

Because Americans are stronger, bigger, louder.

reply

Indian Media should be ashamed off making a mockery of themselves by always going overboard.
She's just a patsy n its embarrassing the way we always lap it up n drool with our mouths open

reply

Does it matter what ethnicity the villain is? Stop being so sensitive.

reply

Why is the white blonde woman never the villain in these types of films? It's always an ethnic foreigner. So much for PC Hollywood.

reply

I see your point, I guess though Baywatch isn't a documentary so the powers-that-be can cast whoever they want as villain. At the end of the day Priyanka could have turned down the role. It's possible that when Die Hard (the original one of course) was cast, no German actor was willing to play uber-villain Hans Gruber, probably explaining why a Brit, Alan Rickman was cast (and he was most impressive may I add).

In any event, maybe the producers will think twice about casting an Indian as a villain now that President-elect Trump has announced the appointment of two Indian females to high level posts:

Nimrata "Nikki" Haley(née Randhawa) as UN Ambassador
Seema Verma as Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

reply

Nah, if Trump is hiring Indians it will give Hollywood even more incentive to demonise them.

reply

Come on, dude. Leave that crap in the politics board. Can't believe you even noticed the "villain" is an Indian. All I saw was a comedy/action flick with a great cast.

BTW, I am glad you're still here. I remember on election day you were saying you're depressed and wanted to kill yourself. Not sure what that was all about, but yeah.

Exactly.

And even if her name isn't fake, people aren't stupid. We can see that it's an Indian actress, not one of white European ancestry.

So like you say, it would have been far more progressive if she had been cast as one of the main lifeguards rather than the evil antagonist (I'm guessing she's a corporate environmental threat seeing as she's described as an oil tycoon in the press releases).

reply

You do know India was a British colony once, right?

Whatever you are, be a good one.
