Felt more empathy for the dad than the mum, evevn though she was raped.

I found it hard to feel sorry for her.

Probablly because of her narcissistic/Borderline personality she displayed towards the dad at the beginning of the movie.

I found myself emphasizing more with the dad.

You know, I felt the same way as you did. Mum was very focused (too focused) on her career advancement and seemed to believe that if we just ignore Sabastian's involvement with the wrong people, things would turn out for the best. You could clearly see that her mind wasn't on her family at all, but her own advancement with her job.

Now, imagine your life, privacy, etc suddenly being ruined in the space of just an hour by thugs that our own government seem to be protecting. In the film's world, I wonder how the family was able to move on in the aftermath or get on with their lives.

This was a couple who has fallen out of love, and neither person seems to care much about the other anymore.

You use this as evidence that the woman is obsessed with her job and thus deserves to be raped?

as a female, I have to say that knowing the mum was going to be raped was awful. Other than having your child murdered, rape is the worst thing that can happen to you, especially since it was done in the "safety" of her home.

I felt more for the guy as well. Why? Usually, the men either get shot right away, or beat half to death to stop them from attempting to help their family. In this case he was beaten pretty bad but still had to think about his wife being raped by a kid, who intended to hurt his son, and an intruder in his home.

Think about how he must have felt, *beep* he was in pain, they beat the *beep* out of him... what happened to her? she got some unwanted dick? shes had sex before, we know that, shes an untrustworthy slut... but being beat, witnessing the rape of your companion(however unfaithful, rude, bitchy, bitch) knowing your childs in danger(he obviously was at a stage where he worried about his son more than usual) seems to be much worse

in the end, if they all would have been killed, he would have suffered the most, thats why, one of the big points of the film was watching him beat the *beep* out of the main kid

You sound cynical, so is rape less value than being a witness of your family being in Trouble?

Bitchy or not, no woman deserves to have forced and painful sexual attack on them, men and boys get raped in some cases too and it is increasing, Rape isn't sex, it is sadistic domination crime, it is that serious.

I felt sorry for the whole family, doesn't matter what characters they were or what they did. They were average people with problems like each one of us

I can't say that I agree. I found it particularly unpleasant that she seemed to have been raped whilst gagged, which must carry a risk of suffocation.
