The stuff of genius

I don't know why this show isn't more well-known. It's so clever, funny, and well-written and performed! The cast is amazing.

It was hidden on BBC 4 but is now showing on BBC2.
I think there is more to come.
Let's hope so.
We few, we happy few!

Rarely seen anything that makes me laugh as much as this.
You're right, it is genius!

I'm glad it started on BBC4 and not BBC3 , even if I like some shows on the latter.

Have been watching this show and being a nurse in the NHS its quite realistic.
The doctor that Vicki Pepperdine plays is perfect. There are doctors like her.

Have a few criticisms. For a medical ward its pretty quiet.
Where are the other staff. No ward clark, OT and physios. The phones would be ringing all the time. buzzers going off etc.

When my dad was in NHS hospital, his ward was a little bit like this one, albeit a little less gloomy.

I'm just watching it for the first time. A lot of it does ring true, but yeah, way too quiet for a medical ward. The female consultant is spot on, and the male matron who couldn't cope with an aggressive patient is quiet spot on too, presuming that his role is more admin based so not so used to patient interaction.

Some parts did want to make me scream, like a known c-diff positive patient being in an open bay and not a side room. Well I hope that doesn't go on in other hospitals, we'd be hung, drawn and quartered in mine!

Pretty good from what I've seen in this one episode though. I'll watch it next week if it's still on.

OTs got a brief mention in series two, a disparaging one needless to say. We're used to that!

I love all of Getting On, and have endless respect for the actors in it, especially the ones who so convincingly play the patients. If it weren't for Thick Of It I'd say Getting On was as good as British TV has ever been. Funny! Grim! Moving! Etc.

They make compromises with reality (the noise and bustle of a ward, the throngs of uniformed and non-uniformed staff, visitors and others) in order to help us follow the action and to show the dynamics between the main characters to best effect.

In answer to the complaint, "whoever heard of a ward with only two staff on it?" - well, just read the newspapers and weep over what's happened to the NHS, the greatest achievement in history. We let people starve to death on wards now because of lack of staff available to help them eat. Not that often, but sometimes. Write to your MP, British voters.

I agree it is just wonderful. My only gripe (and it is a small one) is the constantly moving camera. I don't mind the hand held technique it's just that it moes when there is no need to do so. Jo Brand is fantastic in it as are the rest of the cast. it feels more documentary than anything yet, even the Office or The Thick of It. Totally believable and very, very funny.

Hilarious, extremely sad and superbly acted, this is one of the greatest half-hour comedy shows ever put to air.

But you ARE Blanche ... and I AM.
