The Family Man (2000) Vs. What if... (2010)

This movie has the same plot as Nicholas Cage's The Family Man, but with a more religious background. I personally prefer The Family Man for the performances and the story en general. Which one is your favourite?

reply

Not being a religious nut, I naturally prefer Family Man.

reply

Family Man. What If is better acted, but Family Man is superior to it in everything else.

reply

Better acted? You mean better than Nicolas Cage and Tea Leoni? You MUST be kidding.

reply

Family man

What If....

reply

For sure I prefer "What If...", it's so well done! How long haven't I had laughed and cried in the same movie?? Hello! This is a very toutching movie.

reply

Crazy Stupid Love.

It's EXACTLY the same story, so I guess it's a remake. And although this movie is quite watchable, 'Family man' is really 100x better in every way. Cage was better than the guy in this movie and Tea was better than Kristy without a doubt. And I dodn't like the moral in this movie either.

reply

I guess it just depends on perspective. I feel exactly the opposite. I would never watch The Family Man again. Didn't care for the movie at all. I love What If.

reply

Can any of you say 'this movie's a rip-off'? I knew you could.

reply

I just watched "what if" and thought a disclaimer would appear in the credits stating how it was based off "family man" but it never came.

This movie was done well I have to admit, however I couldn't get past Hercules as a different character since that's all i know him for. Then the religiously overtones came on a bit thick for my comfort.

Even with Kristy Swanson who was a 90's crush for me I have to pick
"family man" despite my neutral opinions toward that movie.

btw, thanks for this thread as it was exactly what I came to this page for and I was delighted to see the topic addressed already.

I'm christian, and wish I could say What if..., but I can't, so I have to go for Family Man

What If

Alison Lohman for Supergirl

I liked them both - "Family Man" for its comedy,"What If" for its message.

What if.

What if!

The Family Man was so much more interesting and I loved it. What If...I found it a little boring.
