really??

do we honestly need another one of these...i know it isn't out yet and i could be naive and think this one'll be different but i won't. so far they've fulfilled all the basic criteria to make a spoof movie of the 21st century:

1) cast Leslie Nielson...he starred in good comedies...he also starred in bad comedies...let's try and keep him with a good reputation in the end...his mere presence isn't as funny as it used to be

2) name the genre they're..."spoofing" and then put the word "Movie" after it. they've never really been inventive ("Airplane" "Top Secret") but ever since Scary Movie, spoof movies titles are just lazy. not to mention that Scary Movie was ironic in it's name...Date Movie and Superhero Movie...not so much

3) tie a number of movie references to a slim plot. i know that the plot isn't explained on IMDB but they give a list of movies they reference and it seems that they're doing what all the other ones do wrong. they've also chosen a horrible genre to spoof. Spanish movies don't exactly have a mainstream audience (except Spaniards obviously but i'm referring to what the general majority would watch)

i know that it isn't the same makers as the other trashy spoof movies but it's still most likely influenced by them. hopefully it'll die in the box office and studios will see there's no longer a niche in the market for spoof movies and reject all the rest

Oh i know seriously do we really need another one. Proably the next thing they will come out with is Italian movie.

In all fairness, the movie is spoofing some very well-known Spanish movies, films which aren't necessarily mainstream in the United States but definitely *are* in the Spanish-language world. When you refer to the "general majority" not being interested, I assume you mean Americans, or at least the English speaking world -- but this movie is neither an English language movie nor is it being released in America first. As you said, this would be relevant to Spanish audiences, but also to mainstream audiences in Latin American who would almost certainly be familiar with the referenced films.

That doesn't make this movie or its genre any better, of course, but it does at least make it more relevant within its own market.

the most stupid part in that comment is that "mainstream" is a geographically subjective matter but then, the movies referenced have made their way into Hollywood's mainstrash, sorry, I meant, Hollywood's mainsteam... If anything the absurdity is that they being Spanish aint much of a common subject, what's the point of spoofing movies that aint thematically related?

reply

Spaniards are people from Spain. Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Dominicans etc... are NOT Spaniards. I assume you mean people who speak Spanish. That would be like me saying that all people who speak English are English people.

Ignorance aside... the United States is not the only country in the universe so to say this movie won't do well within the mainstream is incorrect. It won't do well in the U.S. mainstream would be a better assessment.

I do however agree that it is a stupid idea for a film no matter where you're from. Crap is crap in English or in Spanish.

I just recently watched this on dvd-rip (God forbid i wouldn´t spend a dime on this) and I completely agree with most opinions here: it is a load of junk. They have tried to make a parody of some well-known spanish films but comedy-wise, the film fails in all aspects. I loved the first Scary Movie but this didn´t make me laugh once, which is quite sad, being the movie´s main objective. Don´t even waste your time on this, pure junk which should never have been green-lit. Funnily enough though, wardrobe and effects are pretty good, considering the crappy film it is.

Wow, I'm surprised at all the negative response I'm starting to think that those of you who didn't enjoy it's b/c you don't know spanish and the jokes got lost in translation or didn't recognize all the movies.

I know these movies are stupid but I laughed a couple of times watching this. I think the spanish from spain often sounds hilarious.

I´m spanish and I didn´t find it very funny to be honest. Gags were pretty weak, except for maybe a couple. Also the crappy cast didn´t help at all, all of them being actors who star in *beep* spanish tv series o programs (the cute brunette stars in various crappy teeny drama series, the mom also stars in trashy tv comedy shows and so does her on-screen husband). So basically, it doesn´t even come close to, say, the first Scary Movie, gags were too weak, cast was also pretty weak and the whole thing just looks like it was rushed. I actually felt a bit embarassed for the movie trying-to-be-funny attempt and was glad i didn´t step into a theatre to watch this.

This film was pretty poor but the films it is spoofing certainly are not and I would definitely recommend REC and El Orfanato
