Powerful film

It was a powerful film: Sad, poignant and sometimes joyful.

Absolutely! A very underrated film. The acting is superb. The cinematography is fist class. The story is engaging and much more than just interesting. Especially, it is based on a true story. One of the best love stories (not to mention a same-sex love story) that deals with the hardships and conflicts not only within the couples and their families, but also with the social, cultural, and religious setting they lived in and bound by. It belongs in the same first tier of movies in its category such as Fire (by Deepa Mehta), Room in Rome (by Julio Medem), Saving Face (by Alice Wu), The World Unseen (by Shamim Sarif), I Can't Think Straight (also by Shamim Sarif), etc.
