I watched two of the mediocre episodes

Dead Weight with Eddie Albert 1971
The Greenhouse Jungle with Ray Milland 1972

Both really bad episodes that don't hold up, IMO. Columbo actually got consistently better the longer it went, at least in the 70s.

That's unfortunate.

I'm ok with those two.
The two I can't handle is 'Last Salute of the Commodore' and the one where his nephews wife gets kidnapped on the night of the wedding.

I agree about those; there are a lot of bad episodes, because the show was starting to repeat itself, so they tried to do something new and different, which failed hard.

Another episode I can't stand, is the music composer thing, which is just too obvious and plodding so slowly.

Thankfully, there are plenty of delicious episodes, I even like the episode where the nephew (or whatever it was) wins a lot of money, even if it was the eighties episodes already, that are a bit faster-paced and weaker in many ways.

I do have a soft spot for 'Columbo Likes the Nightlife', or whatever it was called. I don't know why, most of the characters are annoying, but I guess it's always fun to see that even in his visibly older days, Columbo still gets the old job done brilliantly, and his ending words about the fishes is just magnificent.

There are two episodes with Music Composers:

1) Etude in Black, 1972

2) Murder with Too Many Notes, 2001

You must have forgotten about the ABC episodes?

I actually liked the ABC episode "Columbo Goes to College". It was the first Columbo I ever saw, when it first aired in 1990. After really enjoying that episode, I then searched him out on A&E, and saw a good number of the older episodes. Then I was able to see the rest once the DVDs started coming out.
