Funniest Columbo moments?

My personal favorites among those that come to mind are the "special recipe" chili exchange in "Swan Song" and the scene with Larry Storch in "Negative Reaction."

My faves are when he stumbled down a steep hill, and when he had to wait in long lines for building permits. Forgot the episode names.

reply

Good choices.

I think the steep hill incident might be when he was trying to get to a car in which a booby-trapped box of cigars had exploded, I think that episode was titled "Short Fuse."

reply

When he was driving the driving instructor who got so frustrated w/him, he walked back in negative reaction. Another was when the police department picked him up to have him go to the gun range, he was so overdue and would not go on his own.

The scene of Columbo walking-running-falling down the steep hill is from "The Greenhouse Jungle.

I think one of the funniest Columbo moments happens in "A Case of Immunity." It's the running gag of Columbo accidentally stepping on Hassan Salah's robe. Every time you hear the tearing sound as he walks away, the look on Hassan's face is hilarious.

Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.

reply

Ahh. Thanks for the correction. You're right, that crime involved a car being pushed off a roadway and into a ravine.

I haven't seen "Case of Immunity" in ages, and will have to watch that one again.

reply

No the steep hill episode is the one where an older uncle set up a pretend kidnapping of his nephew, with his nephew so that he could get his hands on his trust fund, but then the uncle ended up killing him for real and tried to frame his nephew's estranged wife. I only know because I watched it again the other day but cannot remember the name of it.

"He doesn't live here, I live here, these are my shirts, this is my underwear, MY brother-in-law, MY nephew and niece."

reply

"Old Fashioned Murder" - Celeste Holm fainting whenever she hears the word 'homicide'.

reply

I've said it before on here, any episode with Dog!

reply

Speaking of Dog. There is a scene in a "Most Dangerous Match" where Columbo has dog on the vet's table and he and the vet sit down to talk and dog's snoring startles them to check on dog. The vet grabs a stethiscope (sp?) to determine that dog is snoring. Dog is really knocked out.

Once I was watching 'Forgotten Lady' and had some diarrhea on my couch when I coughed.

...I can laugh about it now.

Dawn's Early Light, when Col. Rumford provides him with directions to Pershing Hall.

reply

Trying to keep up with Milo Janus while he's jogging. Columbo looked like he'd rather be anywhere but there!

Really so many... I always laugh in «The Bye-Bye Sky High I.Q. Murder Case» when Columbo is in the bar and is very kind answering to the girl flirting on him, and he doesn't stop chasing the boy! :)

And like that.. he's gone. (Verbal Kint)

I always laugh when Columbo goes to this mission in "Negative Reaction" to go question the whino (Vito Scotti) and the interaction between Columbo and the nun (Joyce Van Patten). Columbo: "I've had this coat for seven years". Nun: "Oh you poor man". Cracks me up every time!!

That is one of my favourites, too. Especially how he then explains that he is a policeman, and she assumes he is working undercover. She praises his disguise, and he (self-consciously?) opts not to correct her.

reply

That little nun is so sweet and clueless, I couldn't have corrected her either.
