Seriously...?

What annoyed me the most, was, that early in the film, the college kids are seen smoking a joint and later the black guy is pointing out to one of the girls, that smoking is bad.
So, joints = good, cigarettes = bad.
Now, I'm a smoker myself, and do enjoy the occasional joint, so I obviously have no problems with movies depicting either - or movies depicting neither, for that matter.
But it annoys me, that for a movie that wants to push boundaries and be over the edge, they HAVE to push the anti-smoking agenda - in an R-rated movie, no less. If you're gonna show it just to throw in some anti-smoking crap, then leave it out entirely.

...just sayin'...

Pretty sure that was a joke.

It wasn't just a joke for what ends up happening to her later but a part of all horror movies in general. The people that smoke/do drugs/have sex/ect on screen almost always die in horror movies. This was made very common by the 70-80s slasher era movies. I'm fairly sure this movie had no agenda other than to parody some of the best horror movies of all time and be as funny as possible.

reply

I know all that, but why didn't anyone point out, that a joint was bad for someone, but just the cigarette? That's what made me wonder.

I want to know what you think is bad about marijuana. It is NOT harmful, so I'm curious what exactly your objection is.

The amount of ignorance in this thread is astounding.

reply

Ummmm it was a joke to make fun of the stereotypical stoner college kids going to the woods to have lots of sex and getting murdered you see in horror movies all the time.

reply

Wow to the OP, does your pu$$y hurt too?

reply

OP is serious.
and he is totally stupid.
He hasn't figured out yet that cigarettes kill tens of thousands of people each year and marijuana doesn't kill anybody.

reply

Exactly!

Apparently you're ignorant of the fact that cannabis smoke is far less harmful than cigarette smoke. In fact, it has been scientifically shown that cannabis smoke has a positive effect on many cancer cells. Positive for the patient, not the cancer.

You also seem to be forgetting that the college kids are abject idiots. The movie isn't anti-smoking. That character is. Don't confuse the characters with the message.

Cigarettes are more harmful.

Smoke does damage. Any smoke. But the added "vitamins" of the cigarettes gives them a clear bashclearance.

Friends can in fact have different interests you know. I know someone that is a vegetarian yet everyone else I know would probably eat dog if cows and pigs disappeared one morning.

I know that friends having different interests must sound like crazy talk and blows your mind, but it's true.

I am not a smoker but I too think that they should have left the comment out of the movie, cause it comes across as preachy. People smoke all the time, and there is not need to stick in an anti-smoking comment because we all know it's bad, and it's nothing new, so it comes off as preachy.

reply

What? It was a joke. He said, "you shouldn't smoke because it's bad for you." She responded with, "well so is dying but that doesn't seem to be stopping anybody."
