Casting the American remake

Heartbreaker is ripe for a Hollywood remake. Who would play Alex? I say Bradley Cooper with Amy Poehler as his sister.

Add your own suggestions here.

No doubt they'll get in Matthew McConaughey! Which will be absolutely awful.

I almost want it to be awfully cast so that it pans and people will watch the original... which... wouldn't happen.

So, Colin Farrell, possibly? I'm thinking of how good it was in 'In Bruges'... but, actually, I don't think he's quite right.

It would need to be someone attractive, with great comic timing, and the ability to be sexy and charming + goofy and lovable at the same time.

Uhm....

Why does this have to be remade? How made English remakes (especially romantic-comedies) have been done well?

reply

My thoughts precisely. Hollywood does not make a perfect film better. They always make it worse.

Because while Europeans are willing to watch subtitled or dubbed English-language films, Americans aren't. For every "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", "The Passion of the Christ", or "Apocolypto" there are many, MANY foreign-language films that will only play in a handful of theatres across the country simply because they are in another language.

Wow what a nice generalization of Americans. There are plenty of Americans I know including myself that watch foreign movies all the time, as long as I have subtitles I am fine. Yes there are many Foreign films out there that won't be released in our theaters because they just won't, why would they?, that doesn't mean that no one will watch them on their own. You do realize we are capable of watching movies at our free will and not only movies that hit the theaters. I cannot stand when people group all Americans together. There are plenty of Europeans that don't care to watch American films either.

Nice sentiment, but the facts are against you. VERY few foreign films in other languages make it big in the good ole USA. The Oscar winner 'The Artist' was a French SILENT film, for gawds sake! It did ten times the 'business' most foreign films do in the USA. You're too serious!

they just won't, why would they?

now that's an argument anybody can understand!?

Ohhhh nooo, please don't tell me this

I hate our remakes of others' stuff. H'wood is about to release its remake of the fabulous Swedish film, "Let the right one in" (Here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1139797/) which looks to be awful, to be honest with you.

The more Ken Loach films I see, the more I think they need English subtitles.

i saw this movie this week and loved it just the way it is......i will not see a US remake. why oh why does the US film industry insist on remaking a film and dumbing it down in its own hollywood image?!

nothing wrong with the original LET THE RIGHT ONE IN or the DRAGON GIRL films. i will not see the US remakes of those either. i will admit that THE DEPARTED was a brilliant remake, though, of INFERNAL AFFAIRS.

So you havent watched "The Magnificent Seven" then? A remake of the Japanese film Seven Samurai?

Der-Steppenwolf,

Basically, we agree.

The more Ken Loach films I see, the more I think they need English subtitles.

Olivier Martinez as Alex without a doubt. Bradley Cooper as Jonathon. Scarlet Johannsen as Juliette.

" Benny, you silly great fat article"

For God's sake, it's already been done; Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert in the 1934 classic which started it all and which this film actually copies (steals) scenes from:

We don't need ANOTHER American remake, do we? There's a big difference between an homage and a cliché.

Since Hollywood has NO imagination....

Bradley Cooper and Reese Witherspoon

Was'nt this movie sort of a remake of an Hollywood film starring Sara Jane Parker & Mathew McCaunley called Failure To Launch?

A very similar Hollywood rip-off of this movie is "My Best Friend's Girl", with Dane Cook and Kate Hudson, a really, really bad movie.

Half way through the movie I too was casting it for the US remake - because it was very obvious Hollywood would remake it.

It's can't be too handsome a man - that was the whole point of Alex's character; not a very handsome man because if you were an average looking woman you'd think "what the?" if George Clooney started chatting to you.

I personally think the South African guy from District 9/The A Team, Sharlto Copley: He's 'goofily' good looking; great comedic timing; can do different accents.

reply

I don't see why they should remake this film - obviously for the money.

It was very enjoyable, the frustrating thing is that when they do eventually make it it will be more popular than the French one.

reply

That happened with 3 men and a baby as well. which was a remake of 3 hommes et un couffin.
