My thoughts about this film.

French comedic farces can be rather corny. This film is no exception, in the cutesy-poo department, with its back-plot concerning "Dirty Dancing" and the music on the sound track. Whenever Duris busted a move, onscreen, I cringed.

I also didn't buy the so-called chemisty between he and Paradis. Her perf was so wooden, and dispassionate. Duris IS a charmer to be sure, but, I thought his talent was wasted in this formulaic film.

The more Ken Loach films I see, the more I think they need English subtitles.

Are you really THE Russ Meyer?

This was a so-so movie for me. As a rom-com the plot was terrific and I've enjoyed Duris since he was in Gadjo Dijo but this film was patchy to say the least! There was no chemistry between the 2 of them on screen which was its greatest failing. I did think his dancing though was extraordinary.

I agree.
Romain Duris is charmant and his performance was nice, dancing included, but Vanessa Paradis is a terrible actress. She did not put much effort, chemistry or passion at all.
I found the movie decent, for a French romantic comedy (which is an awful combo). Some parts are fairly funny, and the OST is good. Absolutely not something I'd watch more than once, though.

I don't have a great interest in the genre so I can't really comment on how it compares but I enjoyed Heartbreaker immensely; I agree it was formulaic, which I generally hate, but I thought the majority of elements of this film came together wonderfully, which includes the chemistry, or rather burgeoning chemistry of the two leads. Also, I loved his awkward dirty dances; no cringing here (except when Juliette's BF was onscreen that is...)
