sci-fi & mute affect the story at all?? (tiny spoils)

No way could watch this whole movie. Seemed so pointless.
So, those that watched the whole thing....

Did it HAVE TO exist in that blade runner ripoff world at all? Was the plot affected in any way by that time frame? As I watched, I was pretty sure this plot could exist ANY time and it would not affect it. I'd even read it was not written in a sci-fi future, but after moon, they thought it would be "cool" to make it in that time frame. ((REALLY???? Come on!))

He's MUTE, fine. Did THAT affect the story in ANY way? I mean was it "needed" for this story? Just didn't seem like it to me. I skipped to the end and he had new voice installed.... okay, did that even matter? I know he talked a little at the end - yeah yeah gee how significant for him - but did it alter the course of events in a major way like the title of the film would suggest?

Not really... But I suppose it was more ironic, as Leo, who is mute is the most open character, with no hidden agendas or secrets, whereas most of the other characters are "keeping silent" about things from one another... Even Nadirah...

Yeah, it could have been in any time setting. I mean the dude still uses pen and pad, and his weapon of choice was a piece of carved wood.

because amish. also the suspenders and coarse cloth shirt. amish.

mute. because amish.

he's a reformed amish.

Leo's being mute had little to do with enhancing the story. The story would be less weird and irritating if it was just set in today's New York or something.

Another mute story is the Sergio Corbucci Euro western "The great silence". A classic! Apparently they wanted the French actor Jean-Louis Xavier Trintignant for the lead and could only get him to do the film if there were no dialogue. Huh? So as part of the story he is mute because his voice box was ruined when his throat was slit as a kid.

Still I think Mute is a worthwhile movie that moved me a bit. In a sea of so much crap out there this is not a bad film.
