Disney should have bought tomb raider instead

Ford is almost 80. What can they do? They have two options. Reboot Indy, and continue the epic ww2 era stories which could work for them. Or pass the fedora and have a new character take over in what I presume
Would be the late 1950's early 1960's.

Now if they had just bought tomb raider, they would have an auto sex appeal and could make it relevant in a number of ways, with EXACTLY the same stories. And by the time Indy 5 comes out we will be well into the Wonder Woman era of dominance.

Just a thought

They should have stopped after the Last Crusade. Endless sequels ruin so many good movies.

reply

They're making another one? Sheesh.

And I thought the son or nephew or whatever was going to take over for Indiana Jones. Been awhile since I've seen the movies, though.

There was a huge backlash to Shia labeoof who played his estranged son in the fourth. The problem is these were never supposed to be A list movies. Nothing against Shia, but he takes himself way too seriously and it showed through. They would have been better off with a Chris Pratt or the hemsworth Thor guy.

reply

Ah, good point. Maybe Indiana Jones' "estranged son" has a brother that could be played by another actor? xD

He's actually 74 but still too old to be convincing as Indiana Jones. Roger Moore played James Bond until he was 58 and he was too old even then.

I had an awesome idea they could do. Have Indiana jones in the late 60's Middle East. Just at the very beginning of the radical Islamic uprising that ultimately grew into the 1979 Iranian revolution. You have him looking for an artifact in Syria or Iran, and he runs into these evil hyper religious sharia dogs, and then he gets captured.

While in prison We see a present day grandson of Indiana jones fighing Isis in the Middle East. He is Very young just out of school. This young Indy could be played by a number of young actors who don't take themselves too seriously. I personally think the guy who played Thor would be good. Have them both going on adventures in two different timelines in the same region of the world. that ultimately tie together through artifacts.

Boom. Got your new Indy. And the bad guys will feel as relevant as nazis still did in 1980

reply

That could actually be cool.

In today's jurnalism climate, that plot will be accused to be "Islamophobic" in no time.

reply

Only by the regular whiners who don't pay to see action movies anyway. For the rest of the world, Watching Thor save artifacts from Isis while Jon Williams score plays would make hundreds of millions of dollars.

reply

Isis did nuthin' wrong.

Lol

Your two option are the same...a reboot would require a recast, especially if the reboot was to take place during WWII. Also, a recast at least implies someone younger...why would it be set in the 50s
Or 60s which is an era that Indiana was an old man in?help me understand...

reply

Just reboot, nobody wants to see an 80 year old Indy.

If only River Phoenix were still with us, but even he would be approaching his fifties by now.
