What was the point of all this?

I mainly mean the unresolved story arcs from seasons past and especially the last one. For example, the last season wastes a lot of episodes on Pope's going nuts story. All to ignore it later on and culminate with that short pathetic ending? I mean, why? What's the point of wasting so many episodes on a story arc that in the end proved to be insignificant with regards to the endgame of the show. Same with Cockcheese and his father, and countless other things that finally never were significant in any way. So, my question is simply why? Why waste so much time on story arcs that never turned to be of any importance to the greater picture? It's like they were trying to stall time until the show finally ends with countless ultimately meaningless storylines. This show started okay but ended badly. I still love it though. I'm a masochist, I know.

The point is fighting the Espheni made them all more human in the end...

" It's like they were trying to stall time until the show finally ends " i had the same impression, like they didn't care anymore about finishing the story they've built, what a waste...
they should have kept their money to make a decent finale, marching on Washingtown, with a bit of action or others effects, maybe .. i don't know... showing Washingtown... and what we have instead, A WALL - A TUNNEL - the boss at the end - victory using an alien weapon coming from wathever ... that's so sad
