I understand not liking the ending...

But why did so many watch 5 seasons of a show they hated? I don't get it.

reply

A lot of the people that hated it such as me, enjoyed the first 2-3 seasons very much including the premise of it, then season 4 was awful and speaking personally i was going to give it up after season 4 but then they said season 5 was going to be the last i thought it can't be worse then season 4 might as well see it to the end and boy was i wrong.

And some people including me when starting a movie/show/etc like to see it through to the end to see how it ends even if it is terrible.

Pretty much agree with this - I wanted to see how it ended.

Exactly right. If Season 5 hadn't been announced as the final season, I would have stopped with Season 4. I enjoyed seasons 1-3, whatever their faults. 4 just went immediately, completely, and apparently irrevocably off the rails. But I wanted to see how it ended. I'm grateful it wasn't a 13 episode season!

It seems to me that the shows creator/producers made a strategic decision on making this the last season. As if they realized they killed the show in season 4 so in order to keep their legacy viewers, they decided to close out the show and basically imply that, "you've stuck around for this long, might as well stick it out a bit longer."

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like they were able to close on a high note.

It looks more like they planned that they will have a big season but somehow couldn't do it. (Budget maybe). There was clearly not enough space for Pope and they should have a much more exciting fight against the queen... It really looks like they ended in a rush.

reply

So still no one that claimed to have hated everything about this yet watched it all has chimed in. Just people that liked something about it. I guess people must just exaggerate their hatred.

reply

That is exactly how I felt about the show and the same reason I stuck around to watch that atrocity!

I agree. First couple seasons were good. I love TEOTWAWKI type of tv shows and movies, but then the middle seasons kind of got boring and I decided to keep watching when they said this was last season too lol

That's the challenge with shows in this genre.. it kinda gets stale in the middle and it's a challenge to come up with a good plot. Look at TWD on the farm.. blah

Im like everyone else. Liked it at first, and had to finish it. It was also fun to bitch about it.

I get why you ask. I ask people why they watch walking dead when they claim to hate it. Only a lot of them say they hated it from the very first episode, till now, yet they keep watching it. If falling skies suck during season one like it did the last two seasons, I wouldn't have kept watching.

Because when you've become invested in a series after a couple of seasons and it starts to decline you hang on and keep watching in the hope that it will turn around rather than continue to spiral into mediocrity and when it does you wish you had stopped watching seasons earlier. But a great finale would have helped to relieve a lot of the dreck we had to endure.

reply

Alan Sepinwall (I think) proposed the term "hope-watching" as distinct from "hate-watching." And that's what you've described. You hate what you're watching, but that's not why you watch -- you watch because you hope that the show reverts back to it better form, turns itself around, or, at the very least, can't get worse. It's usually a low-reward proposition, but it's hard to give up hope when you're invested in a show.

What a piece of crap finale. Well, I didn't expect much as season 5 was terrible. Can't believe the writers actually came up with something like this.

reply

Because it was saddening that it went downhill...we watched in hope. Besides...it filled an empty slot every Tuesday night lol.

reply

So most of the replies are from people that liked a season or 2, and I get that, however if you read through other discussions on here there seems to be a lot of viewers that hated every season yet they still watched it every week. People I have to say, don't do something you hate, read a book, enjoy a hobby, have sex with someone, or yourself for that matter, there are many things you could be doing, life is short, don't do something you hate every week.

reply

I didn't hate it. I just thought it was bad.

The Finale episode was pretty bad but I have conflicted feelings. I feel a bit sad that it is finished. I liked some of the Characters and it actually entertained me with its bad script writing.

reply

Because *beep* aliens get the hell out of my planet.

Finale really did disappoint.
