Got really sloppy toward the end/Disappointing ending. (Spoilers)

Just finished the series. The first 3 seasons were really good. Season 4 was awful. And season 5 was Ok with a very anti-climactic ending, which was SUPER disappointing because I thought I'd found a good sci-fi series I could watch a few times. The last 2 seasons and finale ruined it for me.

Like I said, first 3 seasons I didn't have a problem with. I might even say they were good!

I don't know WHAT happened to season 4. They must have gotten a new writer from the discount bin. I can respect how they were trying to add a little more fantasy, but they were not able to pull it off in the slightest. I don't know if it was just because the actress who played Lexi was terrible or because they couldn't afford to shoot the vision on paper well enough, but man, it was bad and cheesy MOST of the time. At least let Lexi live and redeem herself or something. They just threw the character in the trash and her parents barely felt a thing.

Season 5 felt like it was going to get better and around episode 6 or 7 I assumed they'd start building up to the ending, but all we got was more irrelevant beating around the bush and unnecessary plot time wasters. Then we didn't see Pope for a couple of episodes so that momentum was lost. Then the way they shoved and rushed, incoherent clips from what should have been 2+ hour movie into 40 minutes... I was just appalled that they would build up this whole series to a daft, poorly executed "ending." I'm sad to say that the last episode, which should have been the best, was actually the worst of the whole series.

I actually had more I was thinking about but I'm just so utterly disappointed in this cheap conclusion that I can't even think right now.

The last couple of seasons they really went off the rails. Suddenly the Volm have to leave even though the war was so close to have being won after the grid had been destroyed. Then they're all separated and what happened to Charleston and the new President? I don't recall them ever being mentioned again from season 4 onwards. I thought Dan and the new President had a bit of a thing for one another but we didn't see her again. Was Charlston just destroyed then?

The Queen in the final season seemed completely tacked on. The Volm didn't even know she was real and yet they had fought the Eshpheni for generations. How could they have never come across a queen before? What was the whole point of Karen's plan with Lexi if there was a Queen coming along in the end? Why did the Overlord's even have Karen in charge, what did they do to her to turn her into one of their own?

I liked Anne so I didn't really want her to die in the end, but I think Hal should have been killed. Tom should have lost something at the end because Lexi was hardly a daughter to him. He didn't even know her and after what she did, I don't think he really loved her either. He would have been far more brokenhearted if he'd lost one of his sons.

What happened to all the Rebel skitters? Were they all killed earlier on or did any surviving ones just blow up in the end when the Queen died. How were they never aware of a Queen either?

Yeah the first few seasons are decent, but the last 2 were a bit ridiculous. Tom had way too many scrapes with death too. It got a little over the top.

Pope's ending was kind of cruel too. They kept him around all that time just for him to snap like that. Then he conveniently follows Tom to the water, I mean how would he even know he was there?

I also just don't believe in the final scene where everyone's back to wearing suits and ready for life to go back to what it was. You think there's going to be people who survived an alien invasion that are going to want to be garbage men or going back to mundane lives? I think the world would remain in chaos and a government would be too hard to re create after something like that.

Hot a lot of notes hete, the entire series was sub par imo right from the get go.

It had its moments and a solid concept. Was let down by *beep* characters, bad dialogue, bad writing and plot holes galore.

I couldn't wait until masons wife and youngest got a alien death beam to the head, alas this isnt the walking dead or GoT its cheesy boring network television.

They should just take seasons 4&5 and edited them to a single season fixing much of what you comment on.

I think Ben should have died in the end fighting off the queen when it was killing his father, giving Tom time to get to the virus. Ben had the super abilities so that would have been great and heroic.

Lexi was a horrible character and the whole fast growing up was rediculous. It felt contrived and thrown in just to have Tom loose a child and as you stated didn't work.

The skitters in the end should not have died like the Espheni because they were not even from their planet. They were just turned into slaves when their planet was conquered from what I recall.

They just ruined Pope after developing his character into what felt like a team member (concentration camp).
