Low budget from the start to the end

Having watching all 5 seasons I always had the impression that it was a low budget tv show. The alien invasion was all depicted in kids drawings, the flashbacks were all located in closed environments with some sort of external light and someone being killed. I kept watching in the hopes it could improve and more money could be put to give a more visual experience to sci fi fans like me. Even in the ending it was very basic and lame. By the way, the ending was rushed and stupid for a show with the "Spielberg Brand" on it.

The ending had to be rushed 'cause the show got cancelled and they only had so many episodes to end it in. I think the original idea was to have at least another 2 seasons but TNT no longer wanted the show. I think they did the best with what they had and while it would have been better if one of Tom's sons had died and they brought Lexi back it was far from the worst ending I have seen.

Try watching the entire season of Rosanne and then come back again.

It was far from low budget and at the time was a very expensive show with a budget per episode around $4million.

I can see why someone would think it's low budget the acting etc so such low standard and locations wise didn't feel like anything special but I expect most of the budget went into the likes of CG and other effects.

The show was a cheese fest awful writing and the cast was all wrong as well give or take a few people.

I expect it was targeting young teens.
