Letters to Allah

To the Christian people who loved this movie:

If you had seen this movie in its entirety and instead of writing letters to the christian god, the kid wrote letters to Allah (the Muslim god), would you still like this movie as much as you did? Would you still find it as inspiring and uplifting? Would you recommend that "everyone should see it"?

And though I can fight, I'd much rather recite...That's entertainment!

Hey genius, last time I checked, Islam and Christianity were two totally different religions, with different laws and different holy books. Even if you think they are one in the same, you can't deny that most Christians wouldn't associate their god with Islam in any way.

But yes, I WAS wondering if Christian people would think the same way about the movie if it was about a Muslim boy. And if they wouldn't think the same way, why?
And though I can fight, I'd much rather recite...That's entertainment!

Hey genius, Just because both religions have one God and creator doesn't make it the same God. The God in the Koran is a differently interpreted God than the one in the bible.

You can study up on this at your local library.

[deleted]

Sorry Mr. genius, I just want you to try to ask as many Christian people as you know if they think that their God is the same as the Muslim god. Most Christian people have no clue about the roots of their religion.

All in all, this debate has nothing to do with my original question.

And though I can fight, I'd much rather recite...That's entertainment!

reply

Well if you just accept your original mistake instead of arguing back like a dumbass.... Allah is just an arabic word of saying God.

There is no such thing as a "muslim god" and a "christian god" We all believe in the same god, we just intrepret things differently.

And no it would not be uplifting or remotely appealing to Christian viewers, as they are not muslim.

Islam uses the the Torah and Bible as well as the Koran, so technically they do have the same sort of stuff (Islam anyway). They have fundamentally different beliefs however.

And just to be the devil's advocate, are people only against this movie because it is Christian? What if it was simply secular? Or Jewish, etc?

Wow. Just... wow. First off:

My gosh how stupid are you - we are not talking beliefs, we are not talking which holy book.

That's funny, because he said "Islam and Christianity were two totally different religions, with different laws and different holy books", which is exactly what I addressed.

Well, Moron, are you capable of reading? Like maybe the thread and other posts in this film? I have no problem with this film.

I wasn't addressing you now was I? I was talking to rjxsapri17-1, since you blew him off in much the same manner as me. Take a hint - calling someone a moron and acting like an all-round *beep* isn't a great way to teach someone. And in this case, obviously atheists are trashing it because it's a Christian movie, and I was just throwing their own hypocrisy back at them. So basically, stop being a dick please.

So many idiots in one topic who could have thought? but this guy jemmy-casey takes the cake. You are an idiot. Its was angel Gabriel who appeared to Mohammed in year 610 and commanded him to recite the following verse...

Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- Taught man that which he knew not.(Qur'an 96:1-5)

Now tell me that Christian don't believe in Gabriel? isn't he the angel and messenger of same GOD? so why don't you go to the local library and study you stupid moron.

The biggest idiot i have ever had a dis-pleasure to read on IMDB!!

"Hindus don't."

Actually, Hindus DO pray to Lord Balaji at the Tirupati Temple - this particular deity is generally accepted as the closest one to the Jeudo-Christian-Muslim version of "GOD" - while they do have several different Gods, whenever they need something badly, the go to this particular God - I should know, as I live in India.

Speaking of Uniterians why exactly do so many of them convert to Islam if they don't share the same God?

reply

Hi,

I am not going to continue this flame war, just want to make a valid point.

Some might say that Christians, Jews and Muslims worship the same God. I'd say that they came from the same line, but would have one huge issue with you lumping Christians together with the rest.

First and foremost, Christians are different. Not to sound "holier-than-thou", but Jesus is the ONLY one that still lives. All other "prophets" or whaever their religion chooses to call them, are dead. They have been dead for thousands of years. Jesus is not, plain and simple. Jesus also claimed to be THE Son of God, not simply a prophet. This contradicts the Muslim religion in that they simply believe that Jesus was another prophet.

Just a few valid points.

Now, to answer the original question, No.

I know this is an older post, but I have to ask: What does any of this have to do with children suffering from cancer? Regardless if these children are Christian, Islamic, Jewish, Buddhist, Rastafarian, or even Vulcan, it doesn't change the fact that these children are suffering from a horrible disease. I personally think that this movie would have been just as touching and heartbreaking if it had been about a child of a different religion. You ALL need to grow up and check your issues at the door because this world has enough problems.

P.S. To the previous poster that said Unitarians have a different God, this is not necessarily true. The Unitarian faith is a conglomeration of all faiths. Their only requirement is that you believe in something. So it is entirely possible to have a congregation at a Unitarian church that is made up of Christians, Jews, Muslims, and anything else you can throw into the mix.

reply

Fine, I admit my original mistake.

I still am not convinced with that answer though. Do Christian viewers believe that only their faith can be uplifting? Why wouldn't they find it appealing? And don't say just because they are Muslim because that's part of my question.

And though I can fight, I'd much rather recite...That's entertainment!

Its absolutely true that Allah is the name muslims use for God. And the word "God" that we use is not even the name that is used for God in the Bible in the original language. "God" has a heathen background actually. Not that it matters. As long as we know who we are are referring to. And its pretty clear that in our parts of the world, "God" refers to the God of the Bible. And "Allah" refers to the God in the Quran. They are not the same God. They are completely different. If you read both scriptures that is very clear.

I know I didnt answer the original posters question as I would have to see the movie first. But probably no. As I find nothing inspiring about the God of Allah portrayed in the Quran.

I'm a Christian pastor. "Allah" is the Arabic word for God. Arab Christians pray to "Allah" because it's the Arabic word for God. Both Moslems and Christians (and Jews as well) trace their spiritual lineage from Abraham. They all believe in only one God - they all, in fact believe in the same God. That's clear from the way in which the respective holy books complement each other. Christian accept the Jewish Scriptures as Scripture; Moslems believe Jesus was a prophet, born of Mary, etc. The difference is really in the understanding of how God is revealed, but all three of the primary monotheistic faiths understand themselves as worshiping the same God.

Umm, not to butt in but "Quran." you should probably spell it right before you bitch about it.

----Umm, actually, as I learned about his in school ,which you obviously didnt learn about monotheistic religions. All three monotheistic religios were based on judaism. They all had the prophets Abraham and Jacob in common, which were the reason the Israelites were started in the first place. They are all referring to the same God, but have different beliefs beyond that. The main deal breaker is that Christianity sees Jesus as the messiah, while Jews and Muslims see him as just another prophet. Jews nor Christians even view Muhammed as a prophet. This is what sets apart the three religions. Allah, is just another word, that Islam uses for God. By the way, "Koran" is spelled Quran. You should probably spell it right before you bitch.

If you are asking would people watch it if it were a Muslim writing to God?

Probably not.

And by that same token some Muslim people would likely go and see it who in turn will not go and see this film. People go and see stuff they can relate to and that have personal meaning to them. Seems pretty obvious.

reply

jjj-j-2746 is 100% right. Christians, Jews and Muslims all worship the same "God."

Yes, each religion has a book with different 'laws' and 'rules' but they are all worshiping the idea of a "man in the sky."

If you deny this, then you are obvious extremely ignorant, or you are too selfish to learn about other peoples faiths.

reply

Yes, if anyone denies that you're always right about everything in every way then they're obviously idiots.

reply

Allah isn't the "Muslim god." "Allah" is just "god" in Arabic, not a specific entity.

reply

"Allah isn't the "Muslim god." "Allah" is just "god" in Arabic, not a specific entity."

Actually it is- both. The Muslim creed states "There is no Allah but Allah, and Mohammed is his prophet." The first 'Allah' is obviously just meant to be taken as the word 'god' or a non-specific noun. The second Allah is obviously meant to be a specific entity.

And FYI, the Muslim Allah and Christian God ARE the same entity. In both religions (as well as in Judaism) the same specifically named angels like Gabriel, Michael, Samael, Tetragammon, Rafael, etc. all serve one God and only one God (although w/ Christianity it's confusing because they have the whole schizo thing going on). The pronunciation of the non-specific term "god" and the specific name for the God the followers of each religion worship is different based on different languages.

The main differences are not in the main God of each religion, but in the secondary entities- Mohammed and Jesus. The thing is- Muslims and Jews understand this fact but many (probably even most) Christians do not. Strangely enough, although Christians don't state their creed the same way the Muslims do, it's really the same thing- they just replace "Mohammed" with "Jesus" i.e. "there is no god but God and Jesus is His son", or if they're really wacked out fundamentalists "there is no god but God and Jesus is God and so is the Holy Spirit."

reply

Probably not. However, by writing letters to the Muslim god, there would have been no inspirational story to begin with. That renders your vain attempt moot.

interesting debate!

I think most Christians wouldn't be interested in watching such movie but hey why judging maybe some will..

and btw I' Muslim and pretty loved the movie
and I didn't even know it's a Christian movie till I read it on IMDB page!

I found it very inspiring especially I'm Oncology pharmacist and I know how cancer patients suffering not only this but.. it reminds me of my cousin who nearly lived in the hospital for two years watching him over the room window! No one was allowed to visit but this!

so, yeah I loved and ejoyed every minute of the movie as a human being!! and I don't think religions has to do with it! that's my opinion!

reply

Yet, if you pay attention to the movie, it is the young boy's faith in God, through Jesus, that sustains him throughout the ordeal. It is his grandmother's faith in the same Savior that helps her to minister to her daughter and older grandson. It is the postal supervisor's faith in the same Savior that enables him to minister to his employee. And this is all based on the real events.

Religion has nothing to do with it. But faith in God through Jesus is sown into this movie, through and through.

I am a Muslim and to be honest i would love to watch this movie, in the end "God, Allah" are both the same all three religions Islam, christianity and the jewish faith come from the same source.

It is the idea of this movie that makes it sweet and emotional. one thing i have learnt as a muslim is to respect and listen understand all peoples faiths. in the end i feel we all believe in the same God. sadly a group of extremist have destroyed the good name of Islam for their selfish goals. but i will always respect all faiths because i follow the right Islam.

Peace.

ps: i have many christian friends who have all said, they would have watched the movie is it was a Muslim boy.

I love how people are talking about God!! It's wonderful, what people say doesn't matter, people can argue their points all they want. In the end there is only one God! Just like they say, There is no Allah, but Allah. There is no God, but God!! Meaning there is only 1!!!

Soon there will be believers and non believers and religions will be wiped out!

Same God for Christians, Muslims, and Jews.

Funny thing is that the Jews and Muslims have more problems with each other than the Christians, yet they both believe that Jesus Christ existed, but was not the Son of God, or the Messiah, but a Prophet. Christians do believe he is the Son of God.

However, back to your questions, if there was a movie about a Muslim child with cancer writing letters to God, yes I would watch it. I love learning about other's beliefs. Does not mean I agree with them, nor do I judge them.
