Why is this movie not classified as a horror?

As a person who doesn't like horrors, I watched this movie, thinking it wasn't going to be a horror. But it was. There was the creepy horror movie music, and I flinched in my chair a couple of times. Also, this movie was a combination of Sinister and The Shining.

I haven't in a second related this movie to Shining, but Number 23 came to my mind repeatedly. And that one hasn't been classified as horror either, though I could find by far more reasons for that.

I immediately thought of that movie Room 1408 w/John Cusack.

Belated reply, but why not... I think its classification is because it isn't supernatural, but a psychological thriller. You're right though, it does have that horror feel to it, though it isn't as intense as psychological thrillers that are classed as horror, such as A Tale of Two Sisters, which is terrifying.

I was on the opposite end of this; I do like horror, and didn't really pay attention to the exact categorization. It was a Netflix suggestion, and from the description, I was expecting ghosts or a poltergeist or something like that. So I was kind of disappointed when it basically turned into a standard action flick at the end!

"I shouldn't even have yarn."

I was disappointed too because based on the plot description on Netflix it made it seem like this was a poltergeist-type movie.

It wasn't.

It was more of an action/thriller movie, but I wouldn't call it a horror movie since the "ghosts" were deemed imaginary since ONLY Ward could see them himself and no one else could; hence, implying he suffered a nervous breakdown from reality.
