Missed Opportunity (ENDING...SPOILERS)

Anyone else think it would have been very cool to add one small element to the final shot in this film...as Peter Ward walks away from the window where his books are being displayed, we see a reflection of his wife and kids in the glass, smiling...as she said, 'I will always be with you', that would have been a good way to show she meant it, and is happy he has been able to move on...

That, yes, would have been nice. But I think we are supposed to gather that because he doesn't need them anymore to help solve their murders, he's moving on.

Good point...I just love 'bookending' in films I guess, it can be a great way to tie together a tale, and it works nicely in horror stories...

No, it would have been cheesy. It ended perfectly.

It's a cool idea. My one problem with it is that as a viewer I might have worried that it meant he was still seeing them, implying that he had not moved on and let go as much as maybe he ought to have. If there was a way it could have been done that could have still made it clear that while she was with him he had still moved on with his life (and maybe didn't see them), that would have been wonderful.

Of course, it was also made pretty clear, by the moving of the wind chimes, that in some way (how much is up for interpretation) they really *were* there, maybe it would have been okay if he still saw them somehow.

No. Because they were still alive.
